i want to make thematic maps of shoppers origin address around
shopping malls, ideally using google maps . the data would use
postcodes and street names, the data concerns cities in Poland
Europe . i can collate data in defined fields in excel, and could
theoretically use gmap to express this on google maps.

The sticking point how do i convert my excel data to a shapfile format
or other suitable format to work with google maps . The data would
show lightness or darkness depending on the number of visits from a
certain postcode.

Maybe you could convert your excel data in KML, by means of a VBScript, and then serve
these KML in GM. I´ve done this Excel Conversion for data about the some 800 brazilian municipios.

Hope this helps,

Luis

HI

EXCEL DATA HAVE THE FIELD OF LATITUDE LONGITUDE?

IF THIS FIELD IS EASY TO CREATE A Archives Shapefile, CREATE A table in dBase IV AGERGAS ARCGIS AND TABLE AND TELLS YOU TO DRAW MATCH POINTS OF LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE.

Will generate a shapefile EXPORT OF EVENTS AND THEN LAYER FOR THE ITEMS YOU SAVE as a separate layer.

Hi Luis

Can you tell me if there is a piece of softwear which would do this for me ? or if indeed it is easy enough a job for someone with no programming experience ?
