So it's the new year now and naturally that means that last night I was at a new year's eve party. Only this time it was in Pondicherry, India. The kind folks in charge of the Rickshaw Run event threw us all a splendid party. It was originally supposed to be on the beach of the Bay of Bengal except it turned out the place they rented was actually a little too new and wasn't actually finished. So instead we had it in a sort of jungle-ly area about 8 km outside of Pondy. They bused us out there from the original location.
It was great to finally get all of the teams together into one place so we could all mingle with each other without having to just bump into them on the street. Even waiting for the bus we were quite a scene. We were around 180 foreigners standing around in the road. The cops started yelling stuff at us but it was in Hindi so none of us understood what they were saying so as a giant group we sort of bumbled from one spot on the street to another without ever really making them happy until the buses showed up. It was pretty hilarious.
The party itself was quite good. We all got flower necklaces and got blessed on the way in. There was free food and classical indian dancing. There was a bar. There were fireworks. There was cake throwing. There was a techno dance floor. Pretty much everything you need. It was good enough in fact that my teammate John and I didn't really hang out together very much. We split up and met as many teams as we could. I could go into all the great people I met and the things we talked about but it would really mean much to you because you don't know them. So I won't. You should consider doing something more interesting with your life so you can be condescending via email like me. Actually, that's just an excuse because my time is almost out at a very overpriced internet cafe. So cheers and later.
