SYNOPSIS:
Part true story, part national allegory, Saverio Costanzo's Gaza-based drama is a pitch-perfect study of the creeping violence of the occupation.
When a middle-class family's house is occupied by Israeli troops, they refuse to abandon their home. A battle of nerves ensues, as the home becomes the scene of emotional and psychological struggle for a family struggling to retain their dignity and unity in the face of military subjugation.
Featuring an award-winning performance from the ensemble cast (with Mohammad Bakri in the role of the father), and a suitably ominous visual rendering by director Costanzo, Private achieves a powerful depiction of life under occupation that remains relevant today in the film's tenth anniversary year.

"Costanzo puts an unnervingly intimate twist on the costs of military occupation in this aptly claustrophobic drama..." LA WEEKLY
