little red envelopes

hi what i have done in the past is have a red box.then for my birthday i've asked ppl to put the money they would usually spend on a gift for me in an envelope(you could use those lovely red envelopes ppl use for chinese new year) and to put it in the box.i then told everyone i would match every dollar that was in the box. that way no-one feels self conscious about me knowing how much they are/not spending. i have usually had a project in mind ie water pump etc...this i also make known to all my friends.then when you get the certificate from the charity saying how the money was spent you can give everyone a copy so they feel involved. if you were having a formal family christmas lunch for example the envelopes could be on on each person's plate..there are many ways of doing this hope it has inspired you all the best marie-christine sydney,australia "The unexamined life is not worth living" Socrates
