As promised, we have been keeping pretty close tabs on the saftey
situation regarding our upcoming missions trip this summer, and i
wanted to share, with you, and email i recived from our contact in
Mexico, the Director of DOOR OF FAITH ORPHANGE, where we will be
staying...
Albert,
We really think the safety issue is blown way out of proportion by the
media, it has really slowed down tourism in our area. We still think
it's safe or we would cancel groups.
Even with the slow down we host hundreds of people every month. We
had many groups here over spring break and have 2 on site here all
this week. We have had no problems with the safety of any of our
groups. There has been a lot of violence in Mexico but all of the
killings in Mexico are gang-on-gang or gangs fighting police in very
specific areas. They are trying to clean up the drug mess. The
security is really tight right now including military checkpoints
looking for guns and drugs.
As one who lives here, I really don't think it's ever been safer for
Americans here in Baja. As of the 1st of the year any violence in Baja
is way down but you'd never know it from the media - all of the
stories are from last year and most are from other states.
A great article came out a couple of weeks ago:

Thanks, and we look forward to working with your youth this summer!

He also mentioned a few things that might ease your concerns:
Not one single reported act a violence against any American tourist in
Baja since Nov 07.
There are more kidnapings in Phoenix than Tijuana. (http://
www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22614102/)
The toll road from Tijuana past us is the safest road in Mexico.
The crime rate is higher in LasVegas, Washington DC and several other
US cities than in is in Baja.
We will keep you all posted on any other updates we recieve and try to
address any concerns you may have. Feel free to contact me at
yo...@nvcf.com with any questions!
Blessings,
Albert Alcorn, Youth Pastor
