Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ.I have an email distribution list for pastors who are concerned about issues affecting our children and who wish to support parents who attempt to address these issues. With very short notice a Drag Queen Story Hour was held at the Plymouth Public Library this week, and I was part of a quickly organized group that went to the event to express our concerns. The email below is my report on what happened, with lessons learned, that I sent to those on my distribution list. This morning I was encouraged to share it with the broader Glory of God on Cape Cod, and after bouncing it off Mamdouh, I'm forwarding it below. If you would like to be on my distribution, let me know. It is completely voluntary, you can respond to as much or as little as you wish.My burden is that this is an age in which the Church cannot remain silent on these kinds of issues. I don't think that's a great surprise, I don't think there is ever a time in which the Church should remain silent.God bless you all,AlanPastor, Anglican Church of the ResurrectionSent with ProtonMail Secure Email.‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ Original Message ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐On Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021 at 9:54 AM, Wingchaps <wing...@protonmail.com> wrote:Dear fellow pastor,There was a 'pop-up' event yesterday, with little notice the Plymouth Public Library held a Drag Queen Story Hour, and with less time a public response was organized. This will probably be typical, there is increasing public outcry on a wide range of topics that impact children, and those in charge (such as library leadership and school boards) have developed strategies to minimize hearing that outcry. This is taken from the Plymouth Public Library website advertising this event:Drag Queen Story Hour
Join us on the front lawn with Just JP and Nuqueer from Boston's Drag Story Hour chapter. Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish, where dress up is real.
It goes on from there. Roughly a dozen of us went to the library after telephoning our concerns. The event was advertised to be on the front lawn of the library, but was moved inside and attendance required a child. We were allowed to stand outside, right next to very loud, noisy, and hostile counter-protesters. What I learned was:
- It was good to experience the hostility of the counter-protesters, to know what it's like. I'll know what to expect next time.
- There is very little point is discussing issues with them, they are not interested. They all had very negative preconceived notions about us.
- It is CRITICALLY important that you remain faithful to your teachings and be a good representative of your faith. Don't let anyone bait you, manipulate you, bring out your worst. Be patient, let your love be evident, all you really have to communicate is that not everyone supports what is happening, good people have legitimate concerns and have a right to express that.
Below is a Biblical reference I think is relevant, but I would really like to hear what you think on this topic, for which topic you're willing to stand out, or anything you'd like to say. If you'd like me to pass that along to others on my distribution list, I'd be happy to do that.May God bless us all, and lead us in the path we should follow,AlanEzekiel 3:17-19 English Standard Version (ESV)
17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 18 If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.

I appreciate the stand being taken here in the name of our Lord and for our children and families. As a psychotherapist, I struggle daily against these dark forces impacting Cape Cod. I look all around among my mental health colleagues and find little fellowship on these issues, that quite frankly, are basic and only require a little common sense to see the truth, whether one is a Christian or not. Thanks be to God for the fellowship we have among us. If I can be of any support in the body of believers and among the spiritual leaders, regarding issues of mental health and wellness, please do call on me.
