Dear Praying Cape-Codders,

Something clearly weighed on Governor Baker's heart on Christmas Eve because that very afternoon he sent a letter to our state legislators telling them that he was vetoing the "Infanticide Bill" that had been sent as part of a recent budget package. While Baker is a far cry from being on the side of Life, even he recognized how extreme this latest bill has taken things. This is exactly what many of us were praying for and we give God all the glory.

The fight is not over. Within hours, Speaker DeLeo vowed to work to try and override the veto. They could vote as early as this coming Monday leaving little to no time for debate or input as people are distracted with the holidays and hardly any media is covering this issue. We know that the vote margin for this has been razor thin....but we also know that our God Who is love (1 John 4:8) and the Author of life (Acts 3:15) is wholly against the spirit behind this bill which includes provisions like girls as young as 16 would need no parental permission for an abortion (yet they would still require it for a tattoo); it expands abortion access up to the very due date of the baby; and it allows doctors to deny life-saving medical care to a clearly viable baby if that baby were unwanted.

Lobbyists and others who are being led by the one who came to "steal, kill and destroy" (John 10:10) have spun their deceptive tales for many months, but we appeal to the King of Kings to turn the hearts of our leaders. Maybe they won't even know why they will vote to uphold the veto? Maybe they will suddenly find their hearts filled with the courage to stand up to those they fear? Maybe our God will use visions and dreams to re-align hearts to the fear of the Lord? We don't have to know how God will act in order to get on our knees and intercede for Him to do so.

Please pray. If you feel so compelled, use this link https://malegislature.gov/Legislators/Members/House
and write an email to our legislators. I thought it best to reach beyond my own legislator so I simply cut and pasted email addresses into the address box of an email and sent them all the same letter urging them to sustain the governor's veto of House Bill H-5179 and to ask themselves some serious questions. One of those questions was for them to please take a few seconds and ask themselves, "Why, after a year of so much sickness and death with such exhaustive efforts to try and protect the most vulnerable from a virus, are they intent on ending this year with a bill designed to expand the death of those who are truly the most vulnerable?"

In this Christmas season, Church tradition calls us to look back. We look back on a season of Advent which is a season of expectation and arrival. We look back on the birth of our Savior and in a couple weeks, on the celebration of the wise men. We also look back on an event associated less and less with our Christmas remembrances.... something church history has labeled "The Massacre of the Innocents" based on the events of Matthew 2:16-18.
In several church traditions, the "Feast of the Holy Innocents" is still celebrated.....this year it happens to fall on Monday, December 28th. As awful as it is to imagine, the coming of the Author of Life was met with the destructive force of death because death is the wage paid out in the darkness of a sin-stained world (Romans 6:23)..... yet, our God calls us "children of light" (Ephesians 5:8). The light needs to start penetrating into this darkness.

Let's lift our prayers together on behalf of all those children whose futures are being voted on by people who have been deceived into believing they have the right to weigh the worth of a life.

Received this update message this morning:

“All Hands on Deck Today!  House Votes Today on Veto of Governor!

Margaret, the House of Representatives will be taking a vote today (most likely) to try and reject the Governor's veto of the Abortion Bill.

We need 53 State Representatives to support the Governor's veto and reject this gross expansion of abortion in Massachusetts!

For the sake of the Voiceless, EVERYONE needs to

1. PRAY
2. Call your State Representative this morning.  Find contact information here https://tapit.us/HPUBG

In addition to our previous talking points ( https://tapit.us/OQwPYI ), make the point that Abortion Giant Planned Parenthood kills an estimated 247 Black Americans every day!  Read article here:  https://tapit.us/HEoB4v

Email your State Representative by clicking here https://tapit.us/t1Afvg

SHARE!

I am sure we are all very sad to hear that Governor Baker’s veto of parts of the state budget that included “the infanticide bill” was overridden by the state legislature yesterday.   Also, sadly, the Governor had only vetoed certain line items of this egregious legislation anyway.  Considering what has been gradually happening spiritually in our state government for many, many years and now is turning into an avalanche, it would have been a miracle if the veto had been upheld.  However, we are people who believe in miracles.  We are praying for miracles. Thank you, Pastor Hanlon, for keeping us informed of what is going on in our state and reminding us to pray and be involved.

It is clear we need awakening to the reality of our Lord Jesus Christ among our government leaders and revival in the churches across our country when we look at the kinds of things that are being legislated, touted, and ignored.

I was encouraged today to receive this message from ReNew Massachusetts:

The pressure you brought on the legislature did produce changes. Originally, the Planned-Parenthood-backed legislation would have:
  • removed parental consent for girls of all ages not just 16 and 17 year-olds;
  • allowed dangerous late-term abortions to be performed in ill-equipped clinics instead of hospitals; and
  • increased the amount of tax-payer funds used to pay for abortions.
We forced them to remove all of these provisions!

There are a number of groups in Massachusetts with which we may align that will help us know how we can support bringing the gospel to our government.

Finally, I have been thinking a lot about a quote attributed to Winston Churchill and want to encourage us all to apply it to the proclamation of the Kingdom of God in this world.

“Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty — never give in…”
