Dear friends of
GLAS,
There is still ticket availability for a great new piece of theatre, King, from the Dublin-based Fishamble Theatre company on a rare visit to Geneva. The show stars Pat Kinevane who won an Olivier award for Silent which we staged here twelve years ago. He is looking forward to this long overdue return visit.
Do please help us to spread word about this event, not least because it will be in aid of the Gaza School of Music, a branch of the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music. GLAS audiences have been supporting the school staff and students since 2016.
Last Friday the School received the Music Rights Award from the International Music Council at the World Music Expo in Finland for their outreach project Gaza Sings which has touched the lives of thousands of children living in abysmal conditions over the last two years of genocidal onslaught on their homes, schools and health facitlies.
King tells the story of Luther, a man from Cork named in honour of his grandmother's hero, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Luther only leaves his apartment for essential journeys, and to perform as an Elvis impersonator. The play explores prejudice, privilege, and resilience, as Luther struggles to live life to the full. It was named Pick of the Fringe at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
The critics have been fulsome in their praise for Pat Kinevane's acting: 'Brilliant' - Irish Times; 'Extraordinary' - New York Times; 'Stunning' - Scotsman; 'Dazzliing' - The Guardian; and 'Mesmerising' - Sydney Morning Herald.
