Rule Changes
As we look ahead to next year, I wanted to just remind everyone that you all voted to make this a PPR league starting next season.  As of now, there are not enough votes to make it half PPR so it will be a full PPR unless that is changed before the rookie draft.

I also posted a note on the league site as many of you may have missed it.  We ended up with enough votes to change the flex spot from RB/WR only to RB/WR/TE beginning this season.

There were a number of proposals to change the rookie draft a bit but none got more than 6 votes so it will remain unchanged this year.  This is a topic I'd love to get some feedback on.  It seems like an area to improve and everyone seems interested in increasing the talent in the actual draft so throw some ideas out there.

On that note, I want to again propose we implement some form of a salary cap or luxury tax for acquiring too many high-salary players.  I have obviously benefited from the arms race recently and I don't want to either take away from the trade activity in the league or limit owners from improving their future situations, but I think things have gotten a bit out of hand.  The final few teams this season would have easily won most 10 team leagues and the disparity between the top few and everyone else is stark.  I'd like to find a way to still incorporate all the things we love about the league while putting some limit on the talent acquired by a single team.  As an example, my final roster would have cost $475 to draft.  That seems egregious.  I'd like to see a cap set somewhere around $350 or $400.  Whether that's a hard cap or a tax sets in above that level, I don't have a strong feeling (though increasing the pot for our annual draft fund would be nice for the locals).  Thoughts?

Any other thoughts on rule changes?  I know you guys have things you'd like to see different, this is the time of year to get those ideas out there.

Moving Forward
As we look to next year, the first thing we need to get out of the way is confirming who is and is not planning to play.  I know you may not have a decision yet, but if you're considering leaving it would be great to know (and know why) so we can start thinking about potential replacements or whether we would want to shrink the league (in the event we have an even number of departures).  Knowing whether we may need a supplemental draft will also dictate when we can begin the rookie draft.

Speaking of the rookie draft, start thinking about how soon you'd like to do that.  I kind of like doing it mid-summer to get the juices flowing a bit and then give everyone some time to make any last minute changes before the keeper deadline on August 1.

Finally, I know Josh is itching for a Super Bowl Party.  I kind of doubt I can host one, but may be able to attend for a bit.  A kid-friendly setup would be ideal in terms of my availability, but I could probably escape for the first half if you guys just wanted to get together at BWW or something.

That's all I got.  Go forth and prosper.

I would recommend moving up the trade deadline by 2 weeks instead of informing a trade deadline.

I would be Ok with this. My one concern would be it leads to fewer trades and hurts teams who are on the fence rather than doing anything to top teams. I think a cap would still allow plenty of trading late but would spread it among more of the teams. It’s tough to know all the unintended consequences prior to implementation but that’s my gut feel.

Also forgot to mention earlier that I still need to update all the keeper pricing sheets. The 2017 one is accurate for guys who were kept last year, but anyone drafted new or dropped and picked up will not be accurately reflected there. Busy time at work right now but hoping to get that updated for 2018 shortly.
