Gentlemen,

It's been a while.  Miss me?  I've got good news and bad news.  The good news is, while my pestering was down slightly last year, it is likely to be down even more this year.  Kids, gotta love em. The bad news is that means I'm not handling all the crap in the offseason I used to.  I'll get to work on some of it, but I'm probably going to need an assist here.

That being said, I happened to open the fancy ESPN Fantasy Football app and see we had no draft scheduled, but a keeper deadline coming up in 2 1/2 weeks.  We should probably get on both of those.  Reply here or to me personally with your thoughts on a draft date.  Assuming the same location will work.  If anyone objects to the current keeper deadline (August 1), speak up.

Before we get there, we have some other items to address.  Namely, we have 2 more casualties this offseason.  The Montana Unabombers (Mr. Tom Harris) and Who is John Galt? (Joe Jay) are no longer with us.  We, as in years past, have a couple options.  We can either seek new owners or drop the league from 14 to 12 teams.  In the past I've heard cases for both so fire away.  If we stay at 14, I know of a couple people already who have expressed interest in joining or re-joining the league.

This presents a secondary issue in the Joe was a member of the Commissioners Committee.  We can either add another member or drop that to 4 members.  We haven't had any issues in the past with disagreements there so totally up to you.

Once we figure out the number of members (and potentially fill spots), we need to iron out keeper deadline and kick off the rookie draft.  As in the past, we will plan to do the rookie draft electronically.  If you want to come drink a beverage in front of me while I'm at work, that works too.

OK, that's all I got for now.  I know it's the middle of July, but try to bring yourselves to spend 10 minutes considering what you want here and we can get the ball rolling (albeit slowly) into the new season.

1.       I vote to keep it at 14 members if we have two people that would like to join.

2.       Okay with the current keeper deadline

3.       I’m good with whatever the group decides on the commissioner committee (more, less, same).

4.       Good to start the rookie draft August 2nd  after the keeper deadline has passed.

5.       For the “actual” draft, I vote for Sunday, August 28th. I would also be open to most locations in the corridor area.

Thanks for the response Thornburg. I would point out that historically we've done the rookie draft in advance of the keeper deadline. I think that helps people choose who to keep, but I'm open to change.

I think we should try to stay at 14 teams if possible. Do we think we can get two commitments in the next week? If so then I think leave the keeper date, if not we should bump it back to later in August. I think we should keep keeper selection scheduled after rookie draft to open up more trade possibilities. As far as the committee number I'm good with either way. 28th sounds good for draft.

That makes more sense. Let’s do it next week then.

Also, I re-checked my schedule and I would be able to do August 28th for the “actual” draft. It looks like my only weekend day available in August is August 7th. I may be able to also do September 5th but that usually doesn’t work for everyone because of Labor Day. Otherwise, I should be able to do most weekdays.

I'm in favor of going to 12 teams.

We can keep the commissioner group the same. Makes no difference to me.

Current keeper deadline works.

I'd like to see if we could get a Saturday or Friday night draft in August.

If we wanted to do a Friday, I could do August 5th or August 26th

Ok, we are pretty much at an even split on 12/14 teams. Only a few answers. In my opinion, that's the first thing we gotta decide. I don't want to spam everyone, but I'll probably shoot out a text here asking for an answer on that piece only. The rest will fall into place once we know that.
