2017 Season Kickoff

Gentlemen,

It's that time of year again.  I promise not to bug you too much since we aren't even into summer yet, but I wanted to send out a quick note to ask you all to please shoot me a text or email to let me know whether you plan to participate in the GFFL again this year.  I don't recall anyone indicating they were considering leaving so I'm hoping for a zero turnover year, but if you are thinking about it please let me know ASAP so we can begin the process of backfilling.  

A couple quick housekeeping things:

1. Keeper Selection Deadline is set for August 1.  To make that timeline work we need to execute a rookie draft at some point in July.  Ideally, we would do it a couple weeks in advance of the keeper deadline so anyone (me) who wants to attempt some wheeling and dealing can do so prior to the deadline.

2. Draft Date is currently not set.  It seems like we are forever away, but every year we run into multiple people who have some conflicts.  If you know what those are, let me know now so we can avoid those dates and start narrowing things down.  My dream scenario is that we eventually just land on a date or weekend and that's when it is every year and we can plan around it.  We are all getting older and that means within a decade or so we should be out that period in our lives where we have to worry about weddings all summer.  Until then, we're probably going to need to adjust the day a bit each year.

3. If we want to make rules changes, we need to get on it.  We are officially into 2017 so anything we pass will impact 2018 UNLESS we vote unanimously.  The one thing on that front I want to bring up now is FAAB.  Historically, we had used the continuous format where players could only be added by bidding.  Waivers processed once a day and you had to bid to get a player.  Last year ESPN made a change without us being able to opt out and players could be added after waivers for no cost (and kept for $1).  This year we have the option for either of those.  My first reaction was to go back to the way it had always been, but if people liked it the way it was last year, we can vote on that.

And finally, be prepared to start hearing from me periodically as I have time to look at your rosters.  I'm flat broke so I'm going to be pestering each of you about giving me draft budget.  I know you'r excited.

Some of the stuff still needs to be updated.  I think I started on the keeper pricing but there are likely still some kinks to work out.  Be sure to check out the Unkeepable List as you prep for your keeper selections.  I'll send an update after I've had time to ensure the Keeper Pricing Sheet is accurate.
