Most people may think that the primary reason for engaging in online piracy is because people want things for free. While there are certainly people out there with such a philosophy, many others pirate because the content they are seeking is not available on any of their subscription channels or, even worse, not available in their country at all.[11]Teasing Master Takagi-san is a simple, run-of-the-mill high school romance anime that would otherwise be wholly unremarkable if not for how difficult it is to watch the complete series in the United States. There are three seasons of this show. If you wanted to watch all of it (a reasonable request) you would need a subscription to three different streaming services, one for each season.[12] You could technically knock it down to two services if you pay extra for VRV because Crunchyroll (which has season 1 and only season 1) is included within the VRV package.[13]
Does all this mean piracy should be excused? Of course not! But it does mean that certain aspects of why people choose to pirate can be explained and addressed. People are starved for content and are willing to pay a reasonable price. But if they must subscribe to a dozen different streaming services just for access to a handful of shows on each one that may have been edited or changed from their original versions, then these fine people might start searching for less legal alternatives that give them what they want.
After the world's best streaming service's take on Cowboy Bebop was critically panned in late 2021, we didn't expect much from Netflix's adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's beloved manga series. One Piece was previously turned into one of the best anime shows of all-time, but the jury was out on whether its live-action version could succeed.
Well, fans and critics alike believe Netflix's One Piece has done just that. With 83% critical and 95% audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes, the pirate-based TV show's first season has more than earned its share of buried treasure.
Since then, the Toei-led animated take on Oda's beloved manga has racked up an almighty 1,073 episodes across 20 seasons, as well as 15 feature-length films. Its longevity speaks to how well this adaptation has been developed, too. One Piece's anime series not only perfectly captures what makes Oda's long-running manga so iconic, but brilliantly builds on its rich world, characters, themes, action, humor, and drama. It's just a delight to see Luffy and company brought to life in animated fashion and you simply can't beat the original.
And with good reason. Our Flag Means Death , which is loosely based on Stede Bonnet's pirate career, is both a wonderful homage to buccaneering sea-based TV shows of old and a modernist take on the pirate story formula. It strikes a pleasing equilibrium between novel storytelling, historic events, comedy, action, and heart. Most surprising of all, though, is the Taiki Waititi-developed series' unexpected voyage into same-sex romance-charged waters, which makes Our Flag Means Death thematically distinct from what's come before.
One of the best Max shows that's worth its weight in gold. And, with its second season set to raise its anchor on October 5, now's the perfect time to embark on one of the best nautical adventures in recent memory.
A space western drama series that deserved more than a single outing, Firefly is a must-watch show for TV fans everywhere. Set aboard the Serenity space vessel in the year 2517, its detailed fantasy-fuelled universe, compelling characters and dynamics, deadpan and offbeat humor, and suspense-filled action blend together to deliver a thoroughly entertaining sci-fi series.
There's a reason Firefly has earned a place on our best Disney Plus shows list, and it's not because we're feeling generous. It genuinely is a terrific TV show that deserved more than a solitary movie sequel before, comics and books aside, its live-action franchise was consigned to history.
It might seem odd to include a show about pirates from Starz, as the cable TV network owned by Lionsgate isn't as popular as rivals such Netflix, but it would be a shame to miss out on Black Sails. The period adventure series, which acts as a prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson's 1883 novel Treasure Island, tells the tale of Captain Flint, who was revered as one of the most feared and brilliant of the so-called golden age pirates.
A show that ran for four seasons between 2014 and 2017, Black Sails wasn't the most appealing from a character development perspective. But it more than makes up for that undercooked aspect with its visuals, ambitious storytelling, and no-holds-barred (and somewhat over-the-top) action.
The last of those shouldn't come as a shock when you consider Michael Bay is one of its executive producers. With 81% and 83% critics and viewers ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, too, Black Sails hits the spot.

In December 2018, the production of sequel to 2014 film The Pirates was announced. The film is directed by Kim Jeong-hoon, originally scheduled for the return of Kim Nam-gil and Son Ye-jin, and was expected to start filming in June 2019.[14] In March 2019, Lee Kwang-soo joined the cast replacing Yoo Hae-jin, the member of original film cast.[15] Due to various reasons and schedule conflicts of main leads, the filming was cancelled in May 2019. It took another ten months for producers to modify the script, cast the actors, and start the film with a new story.[16]
In March 2020 it was reported that Kang Ha-neul was considering to appear in the film.[17] Han Hyo-joo reunited with Kang Ha-Neul, as she confirmed her casting in the film, marking her return to cinema after two years since Illang: The Wolf Brigade.[18] In April 2020, Chae Soo-bin joined the cast of the film.[19] In June 2020 the cast line-up of the film was completed and filming was planned to start in July.[8]
Filming began in July 2020,[20] and concluded in January 2021.[21] In September 2020, a staff member of the special effects team was tested positive for COVID-19, but other members were found negative. Previously the schedule was also delayed due to the rainy season.[22]
The film was originally scheduled to be released in the summer of 2021. The release date was pushed back to the Chuseok festival holidays, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 in South Korea. On October 29, 2021, it was announced that it will be theatrically released during the 2022 Korean New Year holiday.[23] The film was released in IMAX format on January 26, 2022.[24] On January 21, it was also released in 4DX, Superflex G, Superflex, Super 4D, and Dolby Atmos formats in 3 theatres.[25]
The film was released on 1,703 screens on January 26, 2022.[27] As per Korean Film Council (Kofic) integrated computer network, the film opened at no 1 place with 120,025 admissions on the Korean box office.[28] It maintained its no 1 position at the Korean box office for consecutive 14 days after its release by gathering 1,122,499 cumulative admissions.[29]
Kim Na-young writing for MK Sports termed the film as "spectacular adventures of pirates", and praised the performance of actors writing, "The actors' performances are also flawless." Kim found the story of the film "obvious" but not "boring". When comparing it with previous film Kim said, "It's the second story, which is not a continuation story, but another work." Concluding, Kim stated, "If you have seen the first movie, it will be fun to compare and watch, and if you see this film, it is fun to look for the first story again."[31] Kim Hyun-soo of Cine21 comparing the film with previous version The Pirates (2014) wrote, "The harmonious combination of naval battles and intense ground battles that have increased so much is the exclusive highlight of this series. Praising performances of the cast and action sequences Kim stated, "The action of the three-way composition created by Kang Ha-neul, Han Hyo-joo, and Kwon Sang-woo is enough to attract attention."[32]
