Shimoga : The Karnataka State Mental Health Taskforce has recommended that the State government form a panel comprising politicians, representatives of farmers’ organisations, psychiatrists, social activists, and economists to study the spate of farm suicides in the State, chairman K.A. Ashok Pai said.
He said it was necessary to study the socio-economic and psychological factors that have forced farmers to take the extreme step.
A meeting will be held with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru on September 3, he told presspersons on Tuesday.
The proposed panel will take up a study of 10 cases from each revenue division. Based on this, suitable policy decisions can be made to prevent such incidents, he said.
