Several of the houses in North Philadelphia did not have proper
electrical wiring in the seventies. So finding the light string
hanging from the ceiling was difficult. It was extremely hard finding
the string in the dark. One would have to constantly have their hands
in the air until they located the string to turn on the light. Yes,
finding the string turned on the light.
Most likely an outsider observing this act might think the one looking
for the string was crazy because there is constant flinging of the
arms, especially in the dark, to find the string. It is also possible
to tire out while searching for the string to turn on the light.
However, once the light comes on the room is lit and illuminated and
one can see.
Such is the case with the Word of God, which is the believer's light.
The Word is a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our path" (Psalm
119:105). When the light of the Word is turned on in the life of a
believer, she/he is no longer blinded by the darkness of this world,
and the gospel can no longer be hid by the enemy, the devil. The mind
of the believer becomes constantly aware of the truth, and the
glorious light of the gospel provides clarity and righteousness (II
Corinthians 4: 1-4).
Also, when the Word becomes a light and truth to the believer, he/she
is able to follow a more definite, direct path. As stated above, the
Word is a lamp unto our feet and God wants to order our steps with the
Word. God does not desire for us to be wandering pilgrims guessing who
we are; what we are suppose to do; and to whom we belong? God wants us
to know from the light of God's Word that we are fearfully and
wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13-14). God wants us to know that we shall
see God's goodness in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13), and God
wants us to know that we belong to Him and that God loves us (John
3:16).
The challenge is to search the scriptures like trying to find the
string. Just like the string turns on the light, so does the
scriptures. "We have a more sure word of prophesy, where unto ye do
well that ye take heed as unto a light that shines in a dark place
..." (II Peter 1:19; see also John 5:39). Let the light of God's Word
govern our lives so that we will never be held hostage by the darkness
of the enemy.
PRAYER
The God of light who shines in the midst of darkness, we thank you for
giving us the Word that is a light unto our feet and a lamp unto our
path (Psalm 119:105).
It is your Word that orders our steps and guides us to our purpose
and destiny. Without your Word we would still be lost in our sins
(Romans 10: 9-10). We would be held hostage by the darkness of the
enemy. He would have kept us blinded from the gospel (II
Corinthians 4:1-4).
But your Word has brought clarity and we can see clearer now that the
darkness is gone.
We live according to a sure Word of prophecy and it is like a light in
a dark place (II Peter 1:19).
We have been awakened in our spirits and we have arisen from the dead
because of the light of the Word (Ephesians 5:13).
Your Word is the truth and it brings us to liberty and victory (John
8:32-33).
We are grateful that you did not leave us in the dark but you brought
us into the marvelous light.
Thank you for the Word, your light to our success.
In Jesus Name,
Amen

"Change is inevitable." Nothing stays the same. The young become old
and mysteries do unfold... cause that's the way of time...nothing and no
one goes unchanged.
Now, although we may be aware things change, it is not always easy to
embrace change. We at times, depending on what is changing, can have
extreme negative reactions to transition. We can either respond
negatively or positively to change. On the one hand we can be negative
and negativity can be expressed passively or aggressively. Passively
we can become indifferent, cold to people (the changers) and without
our thoughts or concepts that could help facilitate change.
We also can become aggressive and find ways to sabotage anything that
brings change in our lives. We can ruin a workplace with ungodly and
rude behavior. We can cause disharmony and discord among people and
atmosphere with unwarranted conversation.
Now on the other hand, we can positively embrace change and see it as
an opportunity to grow and develop. We can welcome it as a way to do
new things with new people. We can see it as a new way to trust and
depend on God. Elijah the Prophet saw change as a vehicle to embrace
God's methodologies (see I Kings 17). When the Brook Cherith dried up
and Elijah could no longer get his water supply, he changed and obeyed
the word of the Lord and moved to Zarephath. And it was at Zarephath
where God allowed a widow woman to sustain him (see I Kings 17:8-9).
Interestingly, Elijah did not get angry at God because the brook dried
up, nor did he act out of character because he was facing change. He
simply changed when things changed.
We may be in the process of going through some changes, and maybe it
does not feel good or may not be comfortable. It may be one of the
biggest challenges of our lives. Regardless of the feeling or
thought, remember as God was at the Brook Cherith for Elijah, the Lord
was also at the widow's house at Zarephath. Yes, although things are
changing God never changes. God is the same yesterday, today and
forever (Hebrew 13:8). Welcome the changes with an unchanging God.
PRAYER
Psalm 139
O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my
thought afar off.
Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all
my ways.
For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it
altogether.
Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain
unto it.
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy
presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell,
behold, thou art there.
If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts
of the sea;
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be
light about me.
Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the
day:
the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's
womb.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret,
and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book
all my members were written,
which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of
them.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the
sum of them!
If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I
awake, I am still with thee.
Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye
bloody men.
For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name
in vain.
Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with
those that rise up against thee?
I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way
everlasting.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
