Don't Do It
Then Hasash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabesh-gilead:
and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, make a covenant with us,
and we will serve you. (1 Sam 11:1)
It should be clear by now that the believer is not going to hell. The
word of God is clear about that principle. The doctrine that truth is
spelled out
under is eternal security. The Lord has saved us once and for all.
Nonetheless, the devil does have a weapon that is powerful and it can
frustrate grace; compromise.
Compromise is a conscious or reluctant choice to become one,
associated with or hook up too something or someone. Com is the prefix
which means together and promise is the root word which means
assurance, expectation of the future or guarantee. So the enemy wants
us to get together with him or his principles to frustrate assurance,
guarantee or our future.
So many have lost so much because of compromise. When we give in to
something or someone ungodly or acting ungodly we will lose. Ask
anyone who compromises. It is hard getting back or on. Compromise
cripples.
Clearly, this is the intent in this passage. Nahash, serpent, the
Ammonite came to make Jabesh compromise. The need or feeling to
compromise was cause by the spirit of helplessness, fear and
hopelessness. The people of Jabesh was encamped or surrounded by the
Ammonites, their own kin. They felt trapped and they offered a
compromise.
Covenant
The children of God felt so hopeless that they were willing to make a
deal with the serpent. They were going to cut covenant with wrong.
Some of us know that feeling. Loneliness, lost, hurt and no
expectation can drive some of us to settle or give in to evil or
negativity. However there is a word for us don't do it. God still
knows your name. His plan is still of peace and prosperity.
Their peripheral vision would be gone. They could not see beyond now.
They would be lock into a moment. One of the weapons that defeat the
enemy is to see beyond or pass what is fighting or accusing you now.
The warrior must believe in a tomorrow.
Choice
Now once they realized the consequences of the covenant, they made a
choice to asked for help. Interestingly, the enemy did not care
because they felt they were in it by themselves. The enemy loves to
isolate you to make you think you don't have any help. Don't fall for
it. You are never by
yourself.
Strangely, they asked for help from anyone and not the king. They
didn't see Saul as king yet. Just observation, maybe we don't see
Jesus as king. Talk to the king. He will help.
In the case with Saul, when he heard the news the spirit came on him
and became angry. Injustice should provoke righteous anger to fight
against stuff that causes compromise for you or others.
Saul enlisted others to get involve and stop looking out for your own
tribe or territory. They had to act like a nation and not a party or
group.
Saul told them help is on the way. Hang in their. GOD will help us. He
has never failed and he will not start with you.
Celebrate
When they heard the good news that they didn't have to do it, they
celebrated. They were glad that life could be lived without
compromise. So, don't do it. Do not ruin your character, choices for
promise and witness. God got you and He has a future for your life.
Wait on God help is on the way.
God's Peace and Good Journey!
