Prayer Focus
Is your faith fragile? Is your faith vulnerable? Can you easily lose
your faith and quit everything? The makers of the seek and find puzzle
may think so. They entitled their puzzle Breakable and one of the
words that had to be found was faith. The makers of the puzzle were
suggesting that faith is breakable, and one could lose the ability to
believe, hope or endure.
Of course, those of us who are mature in our faith; the ability to
hope, believe, endure and trust, may proudly disagree. We maybe have
contracted spiritual amnesia and think we always have been strong. We
may think we have never staggered at the promises of God (see Romans
4). We may think we always trusted the plan and purpose of God, and we
walked in obedience and confidence.
However, if we are willing to be honest, we had to grow to mature
faith and we had to build ourselves up in our most holy faith. (Jude
1:20). Just as a body builder must develop and train his muscles, the
believer must do the same in the Spirit. Interestingly, it is the
trials, temptations and transitions that increase the faith of the
believer. "Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature
and complete..." (James 1:4). It has been the ability to overcome
intense and extreme issues and obstacles that has empowered and
infused our faith.
So maybe our testimony should be our faith at one time was easily
persuaded and breakable, and we were double-minded in our thinking and
unstable in our ways (James 1:8). But now because of the grace of God
we are able to endure hardness like a good soldier (II Timothy 2:3),
and we are able to fight the good fight of faith (I Timothy 6:12).
Remembering, trusting and believing in God is a learned experience and
we all at one time or another will request the patient Savior to help
our unbelief (see Mark 9:24). And just as Jesus nurtured and nourished
the father with the tormented son and developed his faith, Jesus will
do the same for us. Then we will be able to say, "My faith is not
breakable, but it is steadfast, unmovable and always abounding and
developing in the Lord" (see I Corinthians 15:58).
PRAYER
God we are grateful that you have taught us always to give thanks to
you. In all things we give thanks and praise (Ephesians 5:20).
We will confess that we don't always understand all of the things we
go through and experience, but we are confident that all things work
together for good to those who love the Lord (Romans 8:28).
We have grown to know many are the afflictions of the righteous, but
you deliver us from them all (Psalm 34:19).
Clearly you are on our side and at any time we can come to the throne
of grace and acquire grace and mercy in the time of our need (Hebrews
4:16).
We now walk in your authority and we speak with confidence about our
faith, you.
We are stronger in our walk and more stable in our beliefs (James
1:8).
We have our minds stayed on you and a mind stayed on you is kept in
perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3).
So Lord we thank you for your patience as we grow in our faith.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
