 THOUGHT

Sooner Or Later

If staying
in this defiled land longer,
be a Bodhisattva longer.

If departing
for the Pure Land sooner,
be a Buddha sooner.

 QUOTE

With Observing Of The Precepts As Giving

First, not killing lives; … second, not stealing; third, not having evil defilements (i.e. sexual misconduct); fourth, not having false speech; fifth, not drinking alcohol. These are as great givings… With that called not killing thus, it is able to, for immeasurable sentient beings, give them fearlessness. With fearlessness thus, grudgelessness, hatelessness and harmlessness… in the human world, attaining tranquillity and bliss… Not stealing, not having evil defilements, not having false speech and not drinking alcohol, are likewise thus.

Why ‘Yángqí’s Lamp Remains Bright And Bǎoshòu’s Ginger Stays Spicy’
When Yìnguāng (印光) first left the household life, seeing the couplet of ‘Yángqí’s oil lamp is bright for a thousand ages, Bǎoshòu’s raw ginger is spicy for ten thousand years’, and the Sāmaṇera Vinaya’s (i.e. novice monastic disciplinary rules) words, which speak on the retribution of stealing and using permanent residents’ (i.e. those who stay in monasteries) wealth and properties, my mind was with extreme seriousness. [...]
