 THOUGHT

Verses On Reliance On The Dharma 依法偈

佛虽教吾人,依法不依人,
诸多凡夫人,依人不依法。

The Buddha, although having taught us, to rely on the Dharma and not rely on the person, a great many ordinary persons however, rely on the person and not rely on the Dharma.

因闻痴人说,一二小善法,
愚人直依人,后学大恶法。

Because of hearing an ignorant person speaking, one or two minor good Dharma teachings, foolish persons directly relying on this person, later learn great evil 'Dharma' teachings.

External Vs Pure Land Path

The external paths
offer worldly promises of
perhaps better health
with more wealth,
although all have to die,
without a cent kept.

The Pure Land path
offers spiritual promises of
definite immeasurable life
with boundless treasures,

for all to have Ultimate Bliss,
without a cent needed.

Only seeing if for every matter, they are those willing to suffer from disadvantages, they then are thus. I do not recognise who are small persons. Only seeing if for every matter, they are those fond of taking advantages, they then are thus.’ [...]

How Should We Regard Misbehaving ‘Monastics’?
Question: If we come across someone dressed like a Buddhist monastic, behaving in clearly non-monastic ways, how should we regard this person? Answer: There are 5 points to note on this: [1] First, we should know that this person might not even be a real Buddhist, much less a real Buddhist monastic. [...]

An ‘Eye For An Eye’, With One Another Blind?
Unfortunately, due to imperfections of human-created justice systems, that immoral is not always deemed illegal. If so, what if there is an unrepentant criminal who ‘gets away’ with a terrible crime, due to a legal loophole? What if there is a victim who is indignant, who pines for justice? In the Buddhist perspective, things become morally murky if there is vengeance craved, mixed with fear and hatred. [...]
