(After my last fiasco, you'd think I'd have learned ... but I haven't
found any better place to ask these questions yet.)

I was wondering whether it might be possible to display the date of
each chapter on the "contents page" for a story, to give us some idea
of how fast or slow the story has been updated: this might give a clue
as to how long we might have to wait for the next chapter.

I was also wondering whether it might be possible to make it more
obvious on said "contents page" that recently-uploaded chapters
haven't been validated yet, to save the disappointment on excitedly
clicking through...

In a similar vein to that latter point, maybe the code needs tweaking
so that non-validated chapters don't cause "Next" links to appear?
There is some inconsistency in this area which confuses me (not
difficult but...).

Oh, and one thing I *just* noticed: the "Printable Chapter" link on
the "contents page": why is it even there? I can kind of see the point
of having it show the first chapter, but it doesn't really make much
sense.

I don't have any ideas/comments on most of what you said, but I like the printable link for the contents page. I have several stories bookmarked at that page, and when I go through them to save them, it's quicker than having to go to yet another page.

Absolutely ... the link for the entire *story*. It just doesn't make
sense to have the extra "Chapter" link on the contents page, which
seems from a brief check to cover the first chapter.

I like the entire story link: I've used it quite often to re-read a
longish story. I kind of miss the PDF link, but I can imagine that
some of the more excessive and eccentric Auctorial Notes (albeit much
less obtrusive than on certain other sites one could mention) would
make it very difficult to generate a nice-looking PDF, and a horrid-
looking one would defeat the purpose.
