Dear Parents,
On September 25, we will be celebrating the Feast of St. Thecla here at school. I would like to invite all parents to celebrate the Feast of St. Thecla with us. On the morning of the Feast of St. Thecla, our School Board will have a table set up with coffee and doughnuts for parents as a gesture of our appreciation around 7:50AM. We then invite you to join us in church for Mass.
On September 27, St. Thecla will have our first Dollar Dress Down Day. Students are allowed to dress down and wear red for one dollar. All proceeds will go to The American Heart Association Heart Walk.
I am happy to announce that Dr. Jennifer La Civita will be joining the St. Thecla school community. Dr. La Civita is a learning and behavioral specialist, educational and administrative consultant, and therapist. She is an adjunct professor, works as a group therapy facilitator at a residential psychiatric facility, and serves as an administrative and education consultant for various grade schools. Dr. La Civita will be at St. Thecla beginning in October on Tuesday afternoons to help foster an environment for self expression using a gentle therapeutic approach.
Due to the impending weather conditions, our Student Council Car Wash will be postponed until next Saturday, September 29. Please come out next weekend and support our Student Council from 1:00-4:00PM and have your car washed. All donations accepted!
Please remember the importance of getting your FSP Lunch Order Form in on time. The due dates are posted at the bottom of the order forms. Thank you for your cooperation.
St. Thecla, in cooperation with local high schools and the Archdiocese, has organized a High School Night specially designed for St. Thecla students on Monday, September 24 in Moriarty Hall. We strongly encourage all middle school students to attend High School Night with their parents. Please visit the News and Announcements section on our website for more information.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering here at St. Thecla must be Virtus trained. St. Thecla is hosting a Virtus training session on September 25 and October 11 in Moriarty Hall at 6:30PM. Please register online at www.archchicago.org and click on the lower left side of the screen where it reads “Protecting children”.

St. Thecla School: We Raise the Standards
Dear Parents,
We celebrated the Feast of St. Thecla this week on Tuesday. The day began with coffee and doughnuts hosted by the St. Thecla School Board. Afterwards, we all went to Mass together to pray as a community. Our Feast Day concluded with Father Gene coming over to school to bless the classrooms. This was a great day for St. Thecla, and I thank everyone who came out to make it so special. I look forward to making this an annual tradition.
We would like wish Miss Kathy Kalble good luck in her future, as she has decided to resign from teaching computers at St. Thecla. Currently we are interviewing for the position. I am confident that we will find a qualified, energetic, and enthusiastic teacher to teach computers and technology to our students. As soon as the position is filled, you will be notified.
St. Thecla Homecoming Week begins on Monday, October 1st! Student Council has all types of exciting activities planned for the students and teachers.
Tuesday: Door Decorating Contest
Wednesday: Crazy Spirit Wear Day (no face paint or hair dye)
Thursday: Poster Decorating Contest
Friday: Pep Rally (Students may wear their sport, Hall, or gym wear)
On October 3rd we will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis with a Pet Blessing after school in the parking lot. Please join use with your pets for this wonderful event. Father Gene will meet us in the parking lot around 3:00PM after dismissal.
Spanish begins the first week of October. We are all excited to have expanded our foreign language curriculum. Grades kindergarten through 4th will have Spanish two times a week, while grades 6 through 8th will have Spanish three times a week.
Come out and support our Student Council Car Wash this Saturday from 1:00-4:00PM in the school parking lot. All donations are accepted.
Room parents, two per homeroom, are needed to plan and attend the children’s school parties and activities throughout the school year. If you are interested, please fill out the bottom portion of the blue letter that went home today and return as soon as possible. It is also available on our website under News and Announcements.
If your child is interested in playing chess this year, there are still spots available. Our after school chess enrichment program meets on Mondays from 3:00-4:00PM. If you are interested please call David Schmitt at 224-578-2078 or email him at david_...@ameritech.net.
If any 8th graders are interested in Notre Dame High School (boys) or Resurrection High School, they are having an 8th Grade St. Thecla Shadow Day on November 13th. If your child wishes to attend, please contact the respective high school.
Remember there is no school this Friday. Also, please remember the importance of weekly Mass attendance with your children.
