Pedestrian and Bicycle Infrastructure: A National Study of Employment
Impacts
This new study from the University of Massachusetts compared the
employment impacts of building transportation infrastructure for
bicyclists, pedestrians, and automobiles in 11 cities in the United
States. Pedestrian and bicycle projects produced an average of 10.0 to
11.4 jobs for each $1.0 million spent, while automobile-only road
projects produced the least number of jobs, averaging 7.8 jobs for
each $1.0 million spent.
