Good morning my diverse Banana crew,

As I told Eric and Manu yesterday, my projects outside US are gaining great momentum and it will be too irresponsible for me to leave my partners in this crucial moment. I am sorry, but although I was really looking forward this trip after receiving the honor of leading the Bananas on the endeavor (I already was there, your expectations cannot be creative enough to match reality), I won’t be able to make it.

The good news is that after a deep search around the globe in collaboration with the smartest head hunters and the intelligences agencies with wider networks, I finally find your capitan and spiritual leader. I discard many on the way, they were too focus on technicalities, not skill enough, not tough to endure the Banana way of life for a week or not capable to drink 5 beers in a row while managing the boat under a storm…but what I learned as a young exchange student in high school was that…..if there is a nation that can drink beer and multitask like no other, that is Ireland! Therefore, I came back to the principals to find a substitute able enough for the challenge: My Banana crew, welcome on board your Irish skipper Frank Hennigan.

I think it will be constructive to take some drinks together to find the right Banana nick name for Frank. Frank, there is also a boat leads and skippers meeting tomorrow at 7pm at the MIT campus, Gigi will lead it.

I attach Frank’s contact info so he can take my role from here:

Cell: 781-964-3881

FB: https://www.facebook.com/frank.hennigan.7?hc_location=stream

Email: frank.h...@gmail.com

Have fun and make sure no lady leave the banana boat dissatisfied.

With love,

Eli

Good Morning All!

I will be at the meeting tomorrow night. I have a wake to attend in Southie on the way at 6 so I should be there right at 7.

Could we get together one of these nights before the trip so that we can get acquainted? I have a large amount of sailing experience all over the eastern Seaboard of the US and some carribean, including races and deliveries. This should be a fun trip for all! safety is my first goal, its not a fun trip if you don't come home with the same number of people, and yes the same people, we cant just kidnap someone on one of the islands should we lose someone overboard.

if you are looking for a little inspiration for this trip I highly recommend watching the movie Captain Ron(80's Kurt Russell movie), hilarious and all about a crazy captain in the carribean.

If you have any questions please let me know! I can not wait for this trip!

Frank

yes see you tonight. Peter Sellis is going to represent the bananas on the boat and it would be great if you could be there too from the skipper perspective. You should come to the C-Function after the meeting. Many of the bananas will be represented there. free beer free food.

i will let the organzier rob hale too that you will be present.

I am fine with Guillermo or the other guy. But I understand if others in the group feel like they need a more experienced skipper.

The fact of the matter is its all sunk cost now because the other guy pays for his own plane ticket and we already paid for the boat and food. Unless we get another person on our boat there is no reduction of cost.

Those are my thoughts. Best, Janis

Hi Guillermo - thanks for elaborating on your concerns and yes we are not saving any money by having guillermo as skipper. However, if we feel the need to discuss, I ask that we move quickly on this.

1. There is a mandatory skipper meeting tonight from 7-8. Guillermo, if you are serious about this, you will need to attend it. Frank, our new default skipper, is going to be present there.  Let me know if your plans have changed so I can inform Rob of this situation.

2. Those of us who feel strongly about this should chat as suggested by Guillermo and Mike. Can you two figure out a time that would work for the group or atleast those interested in being part of this decision? We need to do this ASAP in the next 24-36 hours as it is not fair to the other skipper who is about to buy his plane ticket.

Thanks guys!! Lets not forget that this is going to be the MOST EPIC week of our time at SLoan!!!! see you guys tonight at the kong!! i will be representing the BANANA BOAT in the drag show.

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Here are my notes:
  • Boats are big, skippers will need help while sailing
  • Re-read the guidebook and print it out
  • Sign the liability waiver and put it in Rob's folder
  • Voyager boat pickup is at West End -- you should call ahead and pre-arrange a taxi with your rental company
  • Wifi is $120 for the whole boat for the whole week -- and you can Skype call from it (non-video)
  • If you use a lot of gas (motoring instead of sailing), you will need to pay for it
  • There's a 200 gallon tank of water. You can drink it but it's better to buy bottled water, and lots of it. Take short showers (or shower in the ocean)
  • We get a local phone on the boat, mostly to call for help / repairs if needed
  • Top off water before you leave any port
  • Pay attention through the boat walkthroughs
  • Get fucking baby wipes. Throw them in the trash, not the head. Throw nothing in the head.
  • You need your own trash bags
Word,

hey frank!

here is the description for Day 1 from the float plan. It seems we board at 6PM on thursday evening so you should be good. Also what is your dropbox email id? I can share all the docs with you. let me know if this makes sense.

Day minus 1 (Thursday May 23rd)
Flights to STT and EIS for evening night stay at dock.
Once you arrive to ST. Thomas you should ask a taxi to take you to the Charlotte
Amalie Ferry Dock. Here you will be able to get a ferry to Tortola. We have not
reserved any tickets for you, but we will work with the ferry boats to ensure they stay
a few minutes late if some Sloanies’ flights get in near the departure time of the last
ferry of the day or have delayed flights (see here for boat schedules:
reserve a ticket until you get to the dock on the 23rd there
is a lot of room.
Feel free to get any ferry you prefer, but knowing which harbor on Tortola you need
to go to is up to you (this depends on which charter company you used). Dinner is
up to you today, so if you want to grab something in St. Thomas that might be a
good idea!
Board boats around 6pm. Hopefully get walkthrough of your boat this night, but
probably in the morning. Use only shore bathroom facilities, not heads on boats
while at dock! Confirm your departure taxi requirements with your charter office
before leaving the dock so they can arrange taxi upon your return. This should make
things run better when leaving.

Hi guys - as we approach departure date, please note the following things before we have the best time of our lives:

Money: Please send me the outstanding moneys for booze+food+groupfood. Based on what you have already paid, Column G has the latest amount you guys owe me. Please try to do it ASAP as i'd rather not be floating $4000+. My paypal, BoA and venmo are manul...@gmail.com. Once you send it over, please just send me an email indicating that you have done it. See Banana Payments tab https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aty1n5n74rm2dDRGZHhpTWVObnNjdUJHX3V0YVRpaXc#gid=3

Food Chefs: Please volunteer for at least 1 chef slot and 1 cleaning slot if you have a preference. Some people might have to do two. If no preference, we can assign you to a random cooking slot. See Meals tab

Input flight info: Frank and Guillermo - please input your flight info. this way we all can have each other's travel info (row 271 onwards): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsEOp-E4zf4zdHFrM3FsZkRkeTVEZl92eFdoZWEtZ0E#gid=1

Costumes - Thanks Mike for ordering them! Let us know what the per person cost is and I can factor it in

Snorkeling Gear - The link that guillermo seems like a great deal. I might get in on that too!

First Night - Some of us who are arriving on Wednesday (22nd) are staying at a hotel room that Xi Wang organized. If you are arriving early and not on the email chain please let her know because she is coordinating that first night stay.

Meetup - Getting everyone together is harder than expected due to finals/people travelling. It may not happen before we leave. But thats okay because we will have 1223232 hours of alone time on the boat.

Documents - I have consolidated all the documents into a dropbox. if you dont have access, let me know!

Ok thats all I got. Hope everyone is excited!!
Manu

PS - Frank you should now be on the google group. let me know if you didnt get a notification from the google group. Taking Eliseo to BCC (sad :(

I added another tab called "Watch List". Frank needs 2 - 3 hands helping him sail each day, which means you can not be fall over drunk and must be ready to help with lines and anything else Captain Frank may ask of you, including being is little cabin boy. Please fill in your names at least twice by this Sunday. If your name is not filled in on Sunday I will have the pleasure of doing so for you! Boooyaaa! Thanks! - Janis
