Dr. Bob and John Dean refer to Fear and all its forms, but I don't
recall any explanation of Fear's genesis.
My feeling is that everything begins with a particular kind of Blind
Greed. (I actually went back to the single cell in my deliberations.)
Not the Greed that Imelda had, in collecting shoes; that really
deprived no one of anything.
The kind of Greed I'm looking at is a completely self-centred,
pleasure-seeking, oblivious-to-others state, selfish-gene greed--often
in all innocence. In this state, in a place of finite resources, more
than one's share is taken.
This Take/Greed causes another person some sort of Loss. So much
Loss, in fact that the loser--who has certain social expectations
about fairness or altruism-- actually complains to the Greedy one.
Here's where it can go right or wrong:
If the greedy one has only temporarily forgotten the Other, had a
lapse of Social responsibility, Mr. Greed will say oops, sorry, and
redistribute the wealth, or at least stop Taking.
But if the Taker is a true Social Dominator/Socio/ Psychopath, the
complaint will not be heeded. In fact it could even be defiantly
accelerated. More stuff is taken. This person has no regard for the
harm he is doing to others, only for his own pleasure. And Greed is
about pleasure. Gluttony, Lust, Accumulation...they're all Greed.
The Loser, however, does care. He has these choices: He can leave
and find greener pastures, he can submit and waste away from loss of
whatever is being taken, or he can once again Complain. The
complaints must be louder this time, to get Greedy's attention. They
accelerate to Threats.
Now Greedy starts to get nervous. He accumulates more because More
Things give him a bigger body. He looks fiercer. Fierce means he may
have less chance of dying because he will scare others away. However,
under that Fierceness and bluster is FEAR of the Other. (There may
even be some kind of dormant mammalian-brain knowledge that he is
doing something wrong, at least in the eyes of the Loser.)
All along this Cycle are off-ramps. Greedy has just failed to take
one. And the Loser becomes the Enemy. Until the Enemy is satisfied,
which is highly unlikely, considering Mr. Greedy doesn't know how to
appease, the situation will accelerate.
So the Social Dominators in the guise of preachers, politicians, etc.
(because they like to be at the head of the class, up there on the
podium) tell about these fearful Others to their audience of
submissives, i.e. RWAs. And everybody's scared.
Remember, the bullies are the scardest of them all.
