Recently  I came across the following
32 points 0f difference between the Teacher and Guru. 

Teacher and Guru

A teacher takes responsibility of your growth
A Guru makes you responsible for your growth.

A teacher gives you things you do not have and require.
A Guru takes away things you have and do not require.

A Guru questions your answer.

Guru has freedom to select his Shishyas.

Guru is financially supported by Aam Adami, king, and rich people.
Teacher's services are hired.

Guru leads a simple life, full of sacrifices, social services, renunciation, 
lives in an eco-friendly environment.
This is not so generally in case of teacher.


 Now I understand why there are so many teachers and so few Gurus!
