Levy on Fossil Fuel corporations
The Australia Institute is currently running a campaign to ask Parliament to consider introducing a climate disaster levy on predominately foreign-owned corporations exporting fossil fuels to compensate for the damage and increased cost of living they are causing.  A climate disaster levy could raise billions of dollars a year from gas and coal exporters to cover the skyrocketing cost of disaster response and recovery. For more information and to sign the petition see https://nb.australiainstitute.org.au/climatedisasterlevy

Key Dates

13 February Anniversary of the National Apology
This year marks the 18th anniversary of the apology to Australia’s Indigenous people by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd at Parliament House in 2008 on behalf of the nation. QPAC and Link-Up (Qld) are hosting a free event in the Concert Hall Foyer to mark this important commemoration.  The event will also be live streamed.  See https://www.qpac.com.au/whats-on/2026/18th-anniversary-of-the-national-apology

18 February Ash Wednesday

20 February World Day of Social Justice
The theme for 2026 is Strengthening a Just Transition for a Sustainable Future.  The theme challenges us to ensure our move towards a low-carbon future benefits everyone, especially the most vulnerable.  See https://www.un.org/en/observances/social-justice-day

We conclude with a prayer from our planning day asking for God’s blessing on our year as Archer Earth Community.

We begin this year
honouring this life, with all its potentials and possibilities.
We begin this year with trust,
knowing we are created for loving encounter.
We begin our year with hope
knowing the year can hold
love, kindness, forgiveness and justice.
We recall the year just ended.
May we learn, may we love,
may we live on.
We make room for the unexpected,
May we find wisdom and life
in the unexpected.
Help us to embrace possibility,
respond graciously to disappointment
and hold tenderly those we encounter.
Help us to be fully present to each day.
We pray for all whose days will be difficult,
May we support, may we listen,
may we change.
We resolve to live Life in its fullness:
we will welcome the people who will be part of [our lives].
We will greet God in the ordinary and hidden moments.
We will live the life we are living.
May we find the wisdom we need,
May we hear the need of those we meet,
May we love the life we have been given.
God be with us.  Amen.

Blessings from
Archer Earth Community
