Review of progress on the Bringing Them Home Report
A recent report from the Healing Foundation entitled Are you Waiting For Us to Die? found that only 6% of the 1997 Bringing Them Home Report have ever been implemented.  In particular Queensland and Western Australian government have never implemented the recommended reparation schemes for survivors of the Stolen Generation.  For more information and to read the full report see:

Article from Deep Time Network
You may be interested in this article from the Deeptime Network whose vision is of ‘a world in which an evolving interconnected universe, with its unique community of life on our home planet Earth, is a context for understanding, belonging, inspiration, decision-making and creating the future”.  The article draws on the work of Thomas Berry and presents a vision for an ‘ecological civilisation’.  See:

Ecological Spirituality by Diarmuid O’Murchu
In his recent book Ecological Spirituality Diarmuid O’Marchu describes spirituality as ‘spirit connecting with Spirit”.  He explores how to move from an understanding of ‘holiness’ as detachment from the earth to rediscovery of the earth as ‘sacred’.  You may be interested in this interview with O’Murchu about his book.  See https://youtube.com/watch?v=b0WhvuRraDU

New Marine Sanctuary Protection
You may recall the campaign last year to expand the area designated for protection as ‘marine park’ in the South East around Macquarie Island.  The good news is the Australian Government has designated eleven new protected areas announcing 80,000 sq km of new marine sanctuary.  See

Qld Study on Forests
With International Forest Day on 21 March you may be interested in this important study out of the University of Queensland focussed on subtropical rainforests and how climate dictates what species thrive in different locations.  For example, to thrive in drier climates, tree species are generally shorter, with denser wood and smaller tubes for moving water from roots to leaves.  See https://www.uq.edu.au/news/article/2025/02/study-reveals-rainforest-tree-tactics-different-climates

Key Dates in March

1-9 March Sea Week
Australia is a marine nation and understanding the ocean’s influence on us is an important ecological endeavour.  Our oceans cover 70% of the planet and hosts 80% of the world’s biodiversity.  The health of our oceans is threatened by overfishing, abandoned fishing nets and the effects of climate change.  See https://www.msc.org/en-au/what-you-can-do/campaign-for-change/sea-week

2 March Clean Up Australia Day
This annual event to clean up our local areas is on Sunday 2 March.
For more information and to join a group see:  https://www.cleanup.org.au/cleanupaustraliaday

3 March World Wildlife Day
The theme for this year is Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet and will focus on exploring innovative solutions for wildlife conservation.  Current Queensland Government projects include the South East Qld Koala Conservation Strategy, Marine Turtle Breeding and Migration Project, the Greater Bilby Project and the Threatened Species Bushfire Recovery Program in Cooloola, Oakview and Main Range National Parks.

18 March Global Recycling Day
This is an international day to remind us that recycling is a key part of the circular economy to help protect our natural resources.  To refresh our understanding of recycling efforts in Queensland see https://www.qld.gov.au/environment/circular-economy-waste-reduction/recycling

21 March International Forests Day
The theme for 2025 is Forests and Food and reminds us that forests are essential for the survival of forest-dependent communities, particularly indigenous people.  We are also reminded of the importance of forests for climate-change mitigation by storing carbon.
Two interesting websites about Australia’s forests can be found at

22 March World Water Day
The theme for 2025 is Save Our Glaciers  and reminds us that while their meltwater is essential for drinking water, agriculture, industry, and healthy ecosystems, rapidly melting glaciers cause uncertain water flows and sea level rise.

22 March Earth Hour
To demonstrate support for the environment millions of people across the globe switch off lights from 8.30 to 9.30 local time on Saturday 22 March.  While this is essentially symbolic action it hopefully reminds us all of the importance of energy conservation for our planet.
For more information and to register see:  https://www.earthhour.org.au/

24 March Feast Day of Oscar Romero
Oscar Romero bravely advocated for those who were poor and marginalised in El Salvador and was assassinated March 24 1980.  The prayer in his memory, Prophets of a Future not our Own may be found at   https://www.spiritualityandpractice.com/practices/practices/view/28469/oscar-romeros-prayer

In this time of uncertainty in the Middle East and in Ukraine we conclude with a reflection from Dr Martin Luther King
Let us join with the Earth and each other to bring new life to the land,
to restore the waters, to refresh the air,
to renew the forests, to care for the plants,
to protect the creature, to celebrate the seas,
to rejoice in the sunlight, to sing the song of the stars,
to recall our destiny, to renew our spirits,
to reinvigorate our bodies,
to recreate the human community,
to promote justice and peace,
to love our children and love one another,
to join together as many and diverse expressions of one loving Mystery, for the healing of the Earth and the renewal of all life.  Amen.

Blessings from
Archer Earth Community
