September 1 National Wattle Day
The Golden Wattle (Acacia pycnantha) is Australia’s national floral emblem and is a symbol of unity and resilience in the face of harsh conditions including droughts, wind and bushfires. Its resilience echoes the spirit of the Australian people.  See https://wattleday.asn.au/

September 1-30 Biodiversity Month

September reminds us of the importance of biodiversity for the resilience of our planet.  We are reminded too of how biodiversity is threatened by habitat loss, climate change, pollution, and invasive species.  See https://www.wires.org.au/wires-news/september-is-biodiversity-month

7 Sep Threatened Species Day: This day marks the day the last Tasmanian tiger (thylacine) died in captivity and draws attention to the 2,000 plus Australian plants and animal species that are listed as ‘threatened’.  See  https://wwf.org.au/what-we-do/species/national-threatened-species-day/

14 Sep National Bilby Day:  We are reminded that the Bilby is one of Queensland’s 15 endangered mammals and is listed as vulnerable nationally.  See https://savethebilbyfund.org.au/national-bilby-day/

16 Sep International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer:  The United Nations established this day with the advent of the Montreal Protocol to phase out ozone-depleting gases. This years theme is From Science to Global Action.  See https://www.unep.org/ozonaction/news/news/world-ozone-day-16-september-2025

17 Sep Hildegarde of Bingen:  We recall this great woman who died on this day in 1179.  She was a mystic, abbess, composer, scientist and philosopher. You may enjoy this link to some of her poetry.  See https://www.poetry-chaikhana.com/Poets/H/Hildegardvon/index.html

September 21 International Day of Peace
On this day we pray for all those suffering in the war torn parts of our world.  See https://www.un.org/en/observances/international-day-peace

At this time we think of the efforts underway for a lasting peace in Gaza and Ukraine.  We pray in the words of Pope Francis:

God of Love, you create us and you call us to live as brothers and sisters. Give us the strength daily to be instruments of peace; enable us to see everyone who crosses our path as our brother or sister. Make us sensitive to the plea of our citizens who entreat us to turn our weapons of war into implements of peace, our trepidation into confident trust, and our quarreling into forgiveness.

Keep alive within us the flame of hope, so that with patience and perseverance we may opt for dialogue and reconciliation. In this way may peace triumph at last, and may the words "division", "hatred" and "war" be banished from the heart of every man and woman. Defuse the violence of our tongues and our hands. Renew our hearts and minds, so that our way of life will always be that of: Shalom, Peace, Salaam!

Blessings from

Archer Earth Community
