After over seven years of immersing herself in the Indian classical
dance world while performing with the celebrated Sridhar Shanmugam all
over the country, Maura Lee is ready to return to the New York stage
with her own work. Since she has been a devoted student of
Bharatanatyam under Sridhar Shanmugam for a number of years, don't be
surprised to see some of its influence in her modern pieces. Her
exuberance in her love of dance as seen in her early works has been
tempered and fine tuned by the disciplines and strict geometric use of
space prominent in Shanmugam's work.
In honor of Women's History Month, each piece will be dedicated to a
different extraordinary woman in history. Also, the element of water
will be found in many of the pieces since water represents the female
energy in the Asian cultures.
