Pirates complete the upset:


The Pittsburgh Pirates tallied 4 runs in the 5th inning and and the Kansas
City Monarchs locked up in an exciting one-run game at Stars Park. The final
score was the Pittsburgh Pirates 9, the Kansas City Monarchs 8.

Bob Friend(2-0) was dominant in relief. No one got on base in his perfect 1
inning. Kansas City threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Kent Tekulve recorded the save, his 1st. Bullet Joe Rogan(0-2) suffered the
loss. He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

'Some losses are harder to take than others' Kansas City's manager lamented
after the game. 'This was one of them.'

Pirates have the offense to hang and their pitching was better than KC in the series,

Yankees will be just as tough or more so.
