Detroit jumped out to a 7-0 lead with a 7 run 2nd capped by a Hank Greenberg grand slam.
Whitey Ford lasted just 1 1/2 inning.
After that it was hang on for dear life.
Babe Ruth clubbed 2 solo HRs and then ARod jacked a 3-Run HR to make it 7-5.
The Yanks added 2 in the 8th to make it 8-7, but John Hiller recorded a 4 out save to clinch the win for Detroit.
