Pirates stun Monarchs in 11 inning thriller in game 1

A pitching duel through 9 innings as Satchel Paige took a no hitter into the 6th before allowing a lone run.
Babe Adams matched him pitch for pitch giving up only a game tying run in the 6th in 7 1/3.
Bob Friend was masterful in 2 2/3 scoreless innings. The key was the bottom of the 10th when Cristobal Torriente led off with a triple that appeared to be a game winner.
After 2 straight intenional walks to set up a force at home, Friend retired Mule Suttles, Turkey Stearnes, and Chino Smith (talk about murderers row) without allowing a run!!!
Pie Traynor came off the bench in the top of the 11th with a PH homerun and the Pirates proceeded to bat around putting up 5 runs to blow open the game.
Kent Tekulve pitched a scoreless bottom of the 11th and the Monarch home fans were sent home stunned after the 6-1 Pirate win.
Bucs lead the series 1-0.
