Hi all, I'm cross posting this here as it might be of interest to you, and every vote counts!
-------------------------------------------------------
Attention all app inventor programmers,

I just encountered a problem that you should check that you don't also have.

I attempted to work on a large project using the new MIT jars, and I got a bug= my project is too big!
Apparently the new MIT jars have their limit set Smaller than the current google app inventor service.

Therefore, Please check if your project will function on the New MIT jars if you have not already done so.

If you do not, then you will be locked out of your project until MIT increases the project size limit, and, hopefully, big enough to accept your project!
If this does not happen, then you will have to start your project over again, or resume from a smaller saved version.

So, if you have this issue, then Please Star it in the new MIT issues list, so that MIT is aware that there is interest in this bug getting fixed.

The Deadline to continue working on your large project is December 31st, after that, even if you save your project, you will not be able to work on it until MIT increases the project limit size.

Best,
Bryan de Valdivia
ps.  If you do not want to set up your own instance, I recommend using Roger Belk's service ( http://www.bigdaddyapp.com/ ), he got me set up in a couple of hours, on Christmas Day!!

Good input Bryan

and the situation is not totally grim

when Google releases the source...
we can build versions with bigger limits.

I plan on putting at least one big instance up on Roger's servers. Then that problem goes away.

MIT is focused on education. Projects will not be toooo big
and I think it will be educational when they hit the limits - but that is just me :-)

thanks Gary, it's good to know there is a backstop once the source is released :)

Hopefully though, I (and everyone else with a large project) won't have to wait until the source is released.  It seems that the release date for the source has been pushed back :(

Oh, and for everyone new to the issues list, myself included, I have attached a pic of where to star (vote) for the issue.

Updates:

1. After some trial and error, I think that the current project limit size for the MIT jars is ~ 74kb,
so, if you download your project source, and the zip file is greater than 75kb, you will Not be able to upload it to a server using the MIT jars, until/unless MIT increases the project size.

2. MIT is aware of this issue, and Hal had the following to say:
"- Currently there are large projects that run on appinventorbeta.com
that won't run using the MIT JAR files.  We know about this bug, and
we're working on it.  So download them and save them for when we fix
that bug." - http://groups.google.com/group/appinventor/browse_thread/thread/a268d04c2de4c672

The issue is being fixed!
hi all, Hal just wrote on the issues list that it's in testing and
will be fixed in the next system release!  Hooray!!
#1- download the source for all your projects by Dec 31#2- if you have
a big project that won't load onto a server using the new mit jars,
don't despair, it will be fixed soon!
another possible workaround is in this thread:

Thanks for the update Bryan!
I have been hard at work on the tAIR rebuild so I haven't been keeping up with the forums or MIT stuff as much.

All,
I am thinking we are about a week out from the new site. I have most stuff moved over, just got to do some tweaks with the new stuff and a few other pages. It is looking really nice so far.

The new home looks terrific. Good job, Tony. I wished I had your youthful energy.

May I suggest one thing... at the end of the video clip, it shows irreverent thumbnails. Is it possible to remove them? The video should freeze those three colorful pieces. Maybe, a GIF clip or similar would help?

Yeah, I wish. You tube controls that however so I don't think i can change it.

looks Good Tony!

Although, I don't know about the trees at the top ;)

About the video, have you looked at http://vimeo.com/join?
They don't do those links to random vids at the end like YouTube, I
think that also applies to their free option, but I'm not sure.

Best,
b.

Yeah, the trees at the top are the default header image. Roger is suppoised to be working on one to replace it before the conversion.
Haven't tried vimeo, might have to check it out afterwards.

Bryan,
I looked into this and was able to get it not to suggest related sites and also, the new header is up.

cool Tony, looks better with the logo!

Didn't know you could get rid of the vids at the end of youtube, good
to know, so I won't have to pay Vimeo for the privilege :)

Best,
b.

On you site all the links to Shival Wolfs tutorials are broken. Why did you take all his stuff down I wonder. He wrote some good stuff!

Where to find a good bluetooth tutorial now?

David,

Shival Wolf changed providers and may not have put all his stuff back up.

Be sure to let us know when you find good bluetooth tutorials.

The vid is much better, indeed. It was fun to watch the drawing. It reminded me of my old program, a fractal generator.

Keep up good work.
