to The Zodiac Room - a wellington astrology group
As yet we have nothing organised in terms of topics and or presenters
for this Thursday’s meeting. I think we need some sort of plan and
one or two people designated to lead the discussion(s). I can’t come
to this first meeting but I am keen for the group to go ahead and to
take an active role in its organisation.

I suggest the following structure. If this seems Ok then someone(s)
will need to volunteer to lead each discussion. They will also need to
attach any charts that need printing and/or tell the group what to do
in preparation.
• Introductions
• A Topic; So far we have two suggestions for this Current transits
and "what is a chart' if someone wants to lead these or they can do
something else again
• A chart : A the risk of sounding boring we could make this really
easy for ourselves and look at a well know chart (such as a member of
the royal family etc) - or someone could be brave and do someone more
obscure.

I am happy and quite keen to do a chart or a topic or both the next
meeting. If we have no takers for this Thursday by Monday evening then
I think we should postpone. I would rather do this than get off to a
bad start.
Feel free to disagree
Regards
Susan

Hi Susan

Concerning the coming meeting, I might not make it but will try to. Three
reasons against me are: just had a death; throat bug/lost my voice and I
live in Upper Hutt.

There have been a lot of suggestions so far but from past experience with
other astro. groups getting started, it might be hard to make everyone
happy.

People will be at different levels
People approach astrology from different angles
Some people might not like revealing their personal chart for various
reasons
Some people might want to participate but might not like a particular topic
Some people might not want to be lectured to, as at Uni.

Such things maybe need to be sorted out, if they can be, before the group
can take off.

Regards

Hayat

Hi all,

I agree, Hayat, there are lots of things to take into consideration especially with such a diverse bunch :) . I think it would be good to try and re-start the discussions that we had at the end of the last meeting regarding scope of the group etc. I feel like this could be the seed of an astrological community and if that's the case it needs to be accessible to all levels. There were a lot of people last time (which is great!) and we didn't have much time to really tease out what we want to get out of the group. I think we should break into smaller groups (maybe we could make it interesting by doing this astrologically) and thinktank some ideas and start getting to know each other.

I feel we need to ease ourselves into this and find a way to warm up with each other socially before we attach too much structure into our evenings. Conversely, it would also be good to have something on the agenda that we can anchor our collective attention onto. Perhaps in the second half.

Do we know if we have a laptop and projector available? Clearing that one up will help us figure out what we want to do in the second half I think

So how about this.

1st hour - group discussions picking up where we left off, get to know each other and come back for a group share/brain storm.

tea/coffee

2nd hour options -  current transits, celebrity chart, what is a chart?, any other options people want to throw out. Any volunteers? My sense is this will hardly be a lecture style and will most likely involve input and discussion from the whole group, but we'll see how we go I guess!

There are a lot of different levels and different wants and needs to consider, but once we get to know each other and form connections we'll start to have a better idea of how these meetings will continue. If some need more help than others, then maybe we can think about having extra evenings to cover specific aspects of astrology and increase the confidence etc.  Between now and then, if anyone feels like they need anything specific or have any suggestion they don't want to fire around the whole e-mail community and feel like they are embarrassing themselves then please feel free to e-mail me directly nix.ga...@gmail.com

Sorry for the novel!

HI

I think this suggestion for the first hour is an excellent one.  We need to sort out what people want from this group – and what people are willing to give too.

This reflects well both the previous contributions.  Rather than postpone, let’s make the first session a brainstorm about what is really wanted and then workshop about how we achieve it.

I will bring the chart for the meeting – which may help us utilise the energy of the time.

Kind regards

Jill

Hi All

Just one more thought, when we had a show of hands over the time to start, my recall is that it was about evenly split between 6.30 and 7.30.  7.30 is quite late for me as I have to be up at 5 the next day and I would need to leave by 9.30.  We have set 7.30 for this Thursday but perhaps we could consider splitting the difference and making it 7.00?

Kind regards

Jill

I agree Jill - brainstorming sounds good for the first hour...
We also need to decide definitively on the name for the group - so perhaps we do vote / show of hands at the end of the first hour, once we've discussed what we want to get from / give to the group?
I'd be happy to be a minute-keeper for these meetings - or at least for the first one - or did someone already volunteer for this? (in which case, that's cool...)

Cheers,
Pepe :-)
