2026 World Soccer Tournament - Happenings in Harris County

Here is some information on what is happening in Houston with the soccer games.
16 cities in North America are hosting World Cup soccer matches in June and July of this year. In celebration of this event there will be a Special Event Station associated with each city.
If you have a home or remote station in the geographic area of one of the host cities and would like to operate your station using that city's special event callsign during the period of June 11 to July 19, please complete the brief form below.
Activity is planned on the 160m to VHF bands using CW, phone and FT8/4. Approved operators will be given access to a scheduling system where they can choose their band-mode time slots to operate.

Couple of things: it is OK to call CQ World Cup, or CQ FIFA World cup. SSB OR Digital.
Also - All operators, especially any of you working 6m, please use the gridsquare EL29iq.
A lot of hunters feel a single grid square is important for their records. Or so I have been told. I was going to suggest that operators use the gridsquare they are operating FROM, but some folks apparently don't approve. So we will use the one on our QSL Cards.. ;)
Big thanks to a few of you who have already sent in logs with contacts! We already have a ton of logs coming in! Good Job!
We will be operating the HC AUXCOMM Mobile Op Platform (white truck) from the HC FMO field tomorrow (the place we have the CERT Rodeo) with lots of open space, tall things to shoot our longwire up to, A/C, and semi-comfortable chairs. If anyone wants to get some 'stick time' on HF (Even Tech Class!) we will be meeting at the FMO gate @ about 830am.

Harris County ARES ACTIVATION
The first game is June 13th. The Red Cross is our served agency for this activation.
Do not self-deploy.

All selected volunteers will report to the American Red Cross. 2700 Southwest Freeway for staging and further instruction.
You should bring your activation kit,
- including radio programming guide, snacks, medications, personal items (12Hr Kit),
- be sure to include your ID’s, and Licenses.
- be prepared to submit an ICS 214.
(All activities, starting from when you depart your home, to checkout at the Red Cross Building.)
- Document your time separately for your ARES group for your volunteer hours.
It is recommended that you bring an HT and portable radio.
TranStar volunteers will report directly to the site. No equipment is necessary. ALL POSITIONS FILLED
If you choose the Red Cross station, no equipment is necessary.
The activation time will be 2 hours prior to the start of and 90 minutes after conclusion of the event for each game.
You may be asked to set up inside the venue, which may not be conducive to HT coverage for handheld radios.
A mobile radio with a mag mount, gain antenna (Longer that 19") should be sufficient.
Of course, this means a power supply as you may not be in your car.
If necessary to go to a live site, a police escort will take you there from the Red Cross HQ.
You will be given an event Red Cross Partner ID Badge.
The information frequency is 147.000 according to the D14 Emergency plan.
147.000 will be activated 06/14 at 10:00 am.
If your ARES badge is expired, let me know by direct reply for immediate remedy.
We hope to foster the ARES 97 "county" relationship with The Red Cross 51 "county" region for the entire STX section moving forward.
