" This Accra commission is not just a recognition by his homeland of Mr. Adjaye’s acclaim. It also signifies that Africa can build a major work by a leading architect at the top of his game. This is a remarkable thing: Ghana will get to brag about a globally recognized architectural landmark."

Do find the link to the article below. A very interesting piece on the National Museum debate:

Thanks Joe.

The architecture will mean nothing without proper facility management. Especially not when the attractions for "Yelssss credit credit" are not sustainably addressed.

I've been following some additional discussions on this - I'm sure others have, as well. To bring this discussion back again, what are others' thoughts on this???

The more discussion, the more it becomes clear this National Cathedral project, in the particularly sited location near Ridge Roundabout, appears quite problematic... In terms of destroying some historic properties to make way for the project, elevating a presidential aspiration for legacy over real 'development' concerns for the city and nation, in using state resources to create a monument for one religious group, on the planning impacts (and what this means again about the government's prerogative in pushing through its favored projects....):

Good discussion on the Cathedral on the Big Issue from Saturday on CitiFM:

"A Cathedral of Lies, Waste, and Destruction" (thanks to Kuukuwa for sharing this with me):

Also remember this article from a few years ago, which another friend shared with me and Kuukuwa - "Parrot Memories Fade As Ghana's Colonial Architecture Razed"

Best,
Victoria
