Some rendering problems with IE 7

Dear all,
Sorry to spam you if you aren't experiencing any rendering problems.
Some Twelevers (and I suspect lots of other people) are having
difficulties with chapter 3 regarding rendering. Although I am fairly
convinced that the problem should go away if IE8 is installed, I'll
see if I can sort out what is going on here. Bear with me!
