My Google home page sports a widget of the moon as it goes through its
phases. Pretty nifty. I'm so glad I don't have to climb to the top of
a high hill or mountain on this very close to winter night to hear
what the moon is saying.
About midnight last night the moon was at waning crescent with 2%
illumination. At almost 3 PM today the moon widget says 0 %
illumination while the moon graphic shows just a hint of the waning
sliver of light. By 6:02 AM (CST) tomorrow, Dec. 16, the old moon
phase will have been completed and the new moon begun, both in
darkness as the sun will be illuminating the far side of the moon as
it rises and sets with the sun. The moon is not visible in the night
sky at this time because it accompanies the sun which is signaling
daytime on the other side of earth. They are temporarily in lock step
with each other with the sun's brightness obscuring the moon from
view.
The new moon will continue in step with the sun until after midnight
on the 17th. The night sky of the 16th and 17th will will appear as a
dark stage waiting for its star performer to reappear as only the
myriad of distant stars can be seen. By midnight of the 18th, 2 % of
the moon will reflect the sun's illumination. and the waxing crescent
moon will be apparent. The light will increase until the near side of
the moon is again fully illuminated on December 31st.
I rejoice at your good health if you are hardy enough to climb that
hill for moon observations. I'm sure you will dress warmly, maybe
taking a thermos of something hot to drink as you watch the splendor
of our Creator's lights in the firmament of heaven.

I guess that's why ancient Israel passed the word by blowing a shofar,
and I believe they used fires on hills too.

I'm thankful there are websites that predict the first visible light
of the moon around the world. Have you seen this one:
http://www.crescentmoonwatch.org/nextnewmoon.htm

and then the Karaite Jews both predict new moons:
http://www.karaite-korner.org/holiday_dates.shtml

and observe and report actual sightings:
http://www.karaite-korner.org/kknmr.shtml

Can you imagine those hardy souls shivering in the wind as they
muttered, "Come on moon! Hurry up and peek out at me so I can light
the fire. It's cold up here!"? They were faithful and dedicated to
this service. Like the Kara-ites, they could never be accused of not
being faithful.

It is in the string Ten Commandments Calendar 2010. This is my 2nd
response to this particular message. I can't find the first one.
Maybe that 2nd cup of coffee is needed (for me).

Hi Pat,
I'm no expert but something that is to be considered always in
scripture is the context. The authority for the appointed times was
given during creation week and from what I can see there had nothing
to do with the barley. The Sabbath was given during creation week
also.
Let's look at the scriptures where the barley is discussed and see
what we can learn about what is being taught and what the context is
okay?

Mary, did you find it?
This is all I've received. Was there another?
