Well, I've just recieved word that Ubuntu 10.04 has been released, and that got me wondering - does any of the SSPC use linux or do any other computer-geek-y stuff?  I'm running ubuntu and consider myself pretty tech-knowledgable.  I write some programs in Python, although lately taking a class (at the career center, for college credit) has pretty much killed my desire to program anything.  How about you guys?

my teacher's actually got me working on this thing to help teach people python, but seeing as I'm the only one doing any work, it's not coming on very well.  I'll mentin it when it's usable though.  In the mean time I'm supposed to link you his book, but it's pretty mediocre - there's a good wikibooks one though.

As a person with random squeals of excitement from the techno-world,
has anyone heard of the new IE9? Finally we get HTML5 and CSS3 plus it
finally gets a whopping 55 on the Acid test (wow...) which btw Google
Chrome has a 100 so IE still has a ways to go but still.. I still
prefer Firefox on my desktop and Chrome on my laptop but if IE can get
it right maybe I'll use it again.

oh, yay, another slightly better bloated piece of crapware.  Absolutely no reason for anyone to use it, really.  It may be better than IE8, but that's sorta like saying a sharp rock's better than a dull one, when you have a swiss army knife and an axe right next to you.  Yeah, chrome is the way to go, at least in windows.  Firefox goes better with linux because it's built-in, and macs can play with whatever they want.

Have you also heard about the Chrome OS? I think it looks interesting,
although I will probably just download the beta on a boot CD and never
buy one of their netbooks. Cloud computing is too weird for me.

Chrome OS?  Perhaps.  I don't much like cloud stuff in general - I like control over what apps I use - but on the other hand, I've got a 10-year-old laptop that can sorta run ubuntu, but struggles with it.  I've gotta try putting Puppy Linux on there.  Anyway, Chrome might fit my needs there.  I'd prefer a similar but community-made version though, although Google's good as far as companies go. As long as it's open-source I'm cool with it.

on the topic of chrome os- i like it in theory, but there are a million and one ways they could screw it up.

(oh, and david- there IS a community made version. its called Chromium OS, as opposed to just chrome.)
