Real life stories. Documents. Quotes.

It is being widely reported that the evil Avigdor Lieberman has changed the requirement to receive nursery funding, and only children of two working parents will receive the funding, thus in one fell-swoop eliminating all kollel yungerleit from receiving the funding. Obviously Mr. Lieberman is an evil man [regardless if he is part of a right-wing or left-wing government], however there is another facet to the issue.

The former Director of the Ministry of Education Shmuel Abuhav had this to say about the nurseries, and why the funding should continue; “The job of a government is to create processes from within a community, but not to create decrees that are very difficult for them. Why is it so difficult for them? The chareidi community has 21 thousand children in the nurseries, and it’s good that they’re there, for they are in a [government] supervised framework, and they open-up the child at a critical age, they remove the ‘burden’ that people place on themselves… A child’s educational journey must begin from very young. Age 1-3 is a critical age in the development of a child… We must convey to the chareidim; ‘You can remain with your way of life, but do integrate into the workplace.’… It can take years to create trust between chareidim and the state’s institutions, and in one moment it can be destroyed, and it will take a very long time to repair.”

As Klal Yisroel has know for millennia; there are enemies that openly try to inflict physical hardship on us, and there are enemies who approach as friends to try and “help us”, while afflicted us with tremendous spiritual damage. This is the ongoing debate among the secular; those with patience and wisdom [used for evil] are begging for a friendly demeanor and thereby bring the chareidim closer to the secular without any open warring that could alert them to a destructive enemy. However those with little patience and a fierce hate of Torah [as well as political motives] are unable to restrain themselves from openly inciting against chareidim, even though this may disturb the process of chareidi-secular comradeship.

A story; A mother entered her child’s nursery in the heart of Bnei Brak and saw secular books on the shelf. She asked the director “Why are there secular books in a chareidi nursery?” She responded; “Oh that’s because the Ministry of Education has a very limited book list that may be used in the nursery.” The mother said; “Ah, so they are mixing in to the children’s chinuch.” The director retorted; “Absolutely not! There is no meddling at all from the government.” Aha, well-explained. Some wonder what would happen if secular nurseries were forced to read chareidi books, is there any doubt that a great outcry of “forcing religious beliefs” would ensue?
