The following was forwarded to me. It appears that
the battle is on now as regards use of The Bible
that the Christian Science textbook was founded
upon.

Subject: King James Bible

Hi,

I don't know if you have been keeping up with the Journal
articles recently that are taking "potshots" at the KJV
Bible, but I have. I finally wrote a letter to the editor
about it. In that letter I brought forward six important
points about this Bible. I thought you might be interested
in them yourself. These points can be shared with others. I
have left my name on the information because the time has
come for each one of us to stand up to error. We are at a
great turning point in our movement, especially since the
push is still on to join the RC organizations of the National
and World Council of Churches.

Thank you for reading what I have written.

Dear Fellow Mother Church Members,

The editor of the Christian Science Journal remarked in
the March 2013 issue "[Mrs. Eddy] didn't specify the
King James Version of the Bible, although this
is the translation most traditionally used." Frequent
similar remarks printed in our periodicals continually
challenge the place of the King James Version as
"the Bible" that our Leader ordained, along with
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, as our
Pastor. This practice has prompted me to write the
following six points and share them with the field. These
points are based upon many hours of research--reading
our Leader's writings, Journal and Sentinel articles,
and various publications and books about the King James
Version of the Bible.

1. According to an article written January 8, 2011 that
was published by the New York Times, entitled "The King
James Bible at 400", Verlyn Klinkenborg writes,
"By the end of the 17th century it [KJV] was, simply,
the Bible." So this is why Mrs. Eddy did not qualify the
Bible in the Church Manual or her writings,
because it was simply "the Bible." (She does however refer
to it in the textbook as "our common version" and in Message
of 1902 as "the Authorized Version." She also quotes from it
over 500 times in Science and Health and uses many of its
familiar phrases throughout the textbook. She quotes from
other Bibles only occasionally.) We know that today
"the Bible" is still considered the King James Version
because when referring to other Bible translations people
always qualify them as "NIV", "Revised Standard," "Message,"
etc. For our periodicals to imply that "the Bible" could be
"any Bible" is doing a great disservice to the Christian
Science movement and to Christianity by downplaying the
importance of the King James Bible in what it has done in
transforming Western Civilization and making Christian Science possible.

2. The King James Bible put the word of God into the
language of the common man: the butcher, the baker, the
candlestick maker and even the plowboy. It also released
those who read this Bible from the incredible lies promoted
by the Roman church to keep itself in power and the people
in perpetual fear of eternal damnation.

3. The King James Bible Bible brought forth the spiritual
meaning of freedom. It revealed God's government, or
self-government, which dethroned Romanism, tyranny, and
the divine right of kings. I have found the following two
books extremely helpful in understanding the importance and
power of our beloved Bible. They are Melvyn Bragg's new
book, The Book of Books, and Benson Bobbrick's book, Wide
as the Waters. Both of these books explain how this Bible
was the driving force that prepared the thought of our
countrymen for constitutional government.

4. After reading Mr. Bragg's new book, I realized that
this Bible also prepared Mrs. Eddy and the world to receive
the coming of the Comforter. It is the very foundation on
which our Leader discovered pure Christianity and Christ
healing. It was through the King James Version that the
"inspired Word of the Bible" revealed Christian Science
and the Church Manual.

5. Many of the modern translations have members of
Roman Catholic Universities or those professing to be
Roman Catholic working on the translations. We know
that the teachings of Romanism are the absolute opposite
of Christian Science. Since the Protestant Reformation
began, the Roman Catholic Church and its Jesuit priests
(known as God's marines) have been aggressively working
to overthrow Protestantism and to bring every man, woman,
and child back under the control of the Roman Catholic
Church. But to do this, they first must destroy the King
James Bible, the Bible of the Reformation.

6. Finally, if the King James Version is replaced by
other Bibles, healing based on a divine, demonstrable
Principle has no Bible to support it, nor does democratic
and constitutional government. So if we lose our Bible,
will the Comforter then become just another footnote in
the history of mankind? As fellow members of The Mother
Church, let us watch, work and pray that this does not
happen.
