A post entitled "Courageous Members Defending Our Pastor will follow this post. In that message a brave member expresses concern that behind much of the recent upheaval is the MC members unwillingness or ignorance to realize that it is a particular denomination that is attempting to overthrow The King James Version as well as Christian Science. I personally wished to cut out those points addressed in the succeeding message. However, I felt it was not up to me to edit the courageous member's message. It is based on fact as expressed in a communication written to Erwin D. Canham, in 1936. The Sheep Alert is bringing news that the joining of The Mother Church with the National Council of Churches, which has no basis at all in the church government per The Church Manual, may go through. Mrs. Eddy spoke of the hope that the churches would one day "round the gospel in the circle of love". However, she never spoke of bowing in favor of orthodox, old theology. See page 2, "Message To The Mother Church - Message for 1902". Indeed, as the 2/26/13 Sheep Alert brings out there is the constant demand to "Come out from among them and be separate!" It has ever been thus. Think of the Patriarch, Abraham, when God commanded him to leave his natal city in obedience - to in fact "come out from among them and be separate!" I wonder, Will the National Council of churches accept that which many Christian Scientists, including myself, understand that Mary Baker Eddy was prophecised by Jesus? "No", you say, "And why should they?" I say, Mary Baker Eddy, herself, refers to Christian Science as "the little leaven hid in three measures of meal, - ethics, medicine, and religion, . . " (Message for 1902" page 2:15-17. And who told us about the leaven hid in three measures of meal? Jesus! And who did he say took the leaven and hid it in three measures of meal? Jesus said, "...a woman...". We have only to ask ourselves which woman brought us the leaven of Christian Science? Who else but its Discoverer, Founder, and Leader, Mary Baker Eddy? Will the Christian Science Church continue to water down the truth that our beloved Christian Science is divinely impelled and brought to us by one indicated to come to earth for this purpose by the Master Christian, Jesus, himself? Here is the most recent Sheep Alert to be followed by a letter written to the editor of The Christian Science Journal by one brave Mother Church member. * * * begin paste * * * Alert 2/26/13 It appears that the ill-conceived plan to involve the Christian Science Church in an ecumenical effort – that is, attempting to align the Christian Science Church with the National Council of Churches and possibly even the World Council of Churches with their links to the Roman Catholic Church – is proceeding. Shirley Paulson, who was introduced at Annual Meeting 2012 as head of ecumenical affairs for the Christian Science Church, spoke at First Church, Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday, February 22, 2013, on the subject of supporting ecumenical efforts. Ms. Paulson visited the headquarters of the World Council of Churches in Geneva. Once again, we are reminded of Mary Baker Eddy's strong instruction and its mandate for her loyal followers: "Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate. They must renounce aggression, oppression and the pride of power" (S&H 451:2-5). Is our Leader warning us of the dangers of entering into alliances with matter-based religions whose theologies have been influenced to a greater or lesser degree by the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church – as expressed in the letter (sent in sheep alert 8/3/12) to Erwin Canham from Fulton J. Sheen? It has been brought to our attention that Fulton J. Sheen was a monsignor, not yet a bishop, when he wrote the letter to Mr. Canham (April 1, 1936), and that Mr. Canham (who began his service as a reporter for The Christian Science Monitor in 1925) was Washington Bureau Chief when the letter was written. He went on to become General News Editor in 1939, and Editor in Chief in 1964, a position he filled until his retirement in 1974. EXCERPT FROM LETTER, DATED APRIL 1, 1936 ****** THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA WASHINGTON, D.C. My dear Friend: The reason that I asked that you discontinue sending it [The Christian Science Monitor] was a protest against that particular religion that denies the basis of all sacramentalism, namely, the reality of matter....It was not meant as an affront to you. You know that it is just as important to dispel this movement as it is to dispel disease, in fact, it is more important....With every good wish, I am Sincerely yours in Christ, (signed) FULTON J. SHEEN Rt. Rev. Msgr. Fulton J. Sheen | |
