Christian Scientists certainly do not worship the Mary Baker Eddy, the
Discoverer, Founder, and Leader of Christian Science.
Those who understand her to have fulfilled Biblical prophecy do
not feel it vain to hold such an understanding.  She and

her discovery cannot be separated.  An interesting observation is

shared by Joseph Armstrong in his book that I have mentioned before,

"building of The Mother Church".  It is found in his discussion of

the windows of the original Mother Church edifice on pages 61,

and 62.  This discussion is also restated in Christeen L. Anderson

and David L. Keyston's book, "Mother in Israel".

It is the discussion regarding the four windows and their lighting.

Armstrong explains that the subject of these windows were proposed

by Mrs. Eddy, herself.  They are - the window of the Madonna and

infant Jesus, the window of Mary anointing the head of Jesus, the

window of Mary First at the resurrection, and finally the Woman

God-crowned.

Armstrong writes, "...above the Magdalene, is depicted an open

Bible, whose record closes, as we know, with the prophecy of a

God-crowned woman.  This woman is the subject of the fourth

window of the series, and above it, in a small separate window

corresponding to the one where the Bible is painted, is another

open volume, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,

our textbook.

The woman of the Apocalypse, and the teachings of Christian

Science in the book, together signify that the perfect idea of God

and the spiritual universe are revealed; and Christian Science, when

understood, also reveals that the prophecy of Saint John is fulfilled,

and the spiritual idea is the God-crowned woman.  In these windows

the Bible and Science and Health are shown to be our true pastor

and preacher, explaining the way of salvation to all mortals."

Now here in his conclusion is the portion where Armstrong explains

how it is *symbolized* that it is a challenge for mortals to grasp the true

idea of spiritual, generic man as revealed in Christian Science, and I would

add consequently fail to see our Leader as fulfilling Bible prophecy

by bringing forth the little book and the Comforter, Christian Science.

Armstrong concludes his discussion of these windows by

explaining, "There is a peculiar circumstance connected with the

arrangement of these windows.  To place them in their present

order, so that their story might be read from left to right, it was found

that the infant Jesus had the best light; the anointing of  Jesus

came in almost as good a place; the Resurrection window was rather

dark; while the Woman of Prophecy, representing the highest

revelation of all, had less light than any other window in the Church.

Thus we may see that while the human Jesus is recognized as the

Son of God by many, the risen Christ, [and] or the God-crowned ideal,

is as yet but faintly seen."

Let it be repeated, Christian Scientists do not worship Mary Baker Eddy.

They do not worship Jesus either.  They would worship the one infinite

Creator, God.  To understand someone as fulfilling Biblical prophecy is

*not* to worship that one.  It is simply to recognize their role and place.

Thus, it is a good thing to periodically bring forth that document known

as Mrs. Eddy's Place and not to flounder if a few feathers appear ruffled.
