to The Science of Celestial Being
I'd like to register my protest against the opening
citation for the upcoming Bible Lesson, March 4,2012,
"Man", in which God is referred to and addressed as
"you". The Bible version utilized is not in accord
with the King James Version. These versions used
are becoming so far off the mark that the idea
that Mary Baker Eddy had for correlative text is no
longer relevant.
For instance Psalm 92:4 in the King James Version
says nothing about singing, as does the unorthodox
version used. If the Bible Lesson committee members
had wanted to employ the idea of singing which would
then tie in with the last verse in the responsive
reading, they really had to look no farther than the
first verse in Psalm 92,
"1 It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord,
and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High:"
Instead they employed a disjointed verse from
an unorthodox version for Psalm 92, verse 4, which
refers to singing for joy, but addresses our heavenly
Father-Mother as "you".
A little thinking enables us to understand that
Mary Baker Eddy, by God's own dictation to her,
defines "You", in the negative in the chapter,
"Glossary" of the Christian Science textbook,
"Science and Health with Key To The Scriptures".
On page 599:3, she writes,
"You. "As applied to corporeality, a mortal; finity."
Clearly then, "you" is not an appropriate way to
address the most High.
Over ninety five percent of the Bible
verses in the Christian Science textbook are from
the King James Version. Many of the various
new Bible versions are different enough from the
King James Version that one cannot expect to
really have "correlative passages from our
denominational textbook" fit as announced in the
note approved by Mary Baker Eddy that is read in
church services before beginning the Lesson-
Sermon. Will the next step be to drop the note?
Will the next step be to have Bible verses from
other versions within the Bible Lesson itself,
thereby requiring those who wish to follow the
Lesson Sermon during the week to buy the full
text and drop the use of the books?
It is getting very far from the Leader's original
vision. It is distressing that there are those who
have no problem following paths never intended and
that muddy the message and the Science itself.
Thankfully, there are those who are willing to keep
thinking.
