Yesterday I came across a message by Hanna written in February of 2009 - It is one of the most brilliant messages
I have ever read defending the Eighty Eighth edition of Mary Baker Eddy's Church Manual. I wish to share it in
the spirit of Mrs. Eddy's own words, "The time for thinkers has come." (S&H vii). This message is exceptionally
thought provoking and worthy I think of continual review.
I have spent a lot of investigation in the CS history and the straying
of the church and its illegal BOD. I am surprised how much material is
available about the subject, though unknown to many. I have not
investigated it all, but I would like to share two main conclusions that
I am getting from the research, so far.
The first conclusion is how ingenious Mrs Eddy protected the Manual,
word by word, in a triple lock:
The first lock is the last By-Law in the Manual. "This Manual shall not
be revised without the written consent of its author" (Manual p104). "No
new Tenet or By-Law shall be adopted, nor any Tenet or By-Law amended or
annulled, without the written consent of Mary Baker Eddy, ..." (Manual
p105).
The second lock is the deed of March 19, 1903 (Manual p136), containing
one of the `further trusts': "In addition to the trusts
contained in said deed of September 1, 1892, from Mary Baker G. Eddy,
this property is conveyed on the further trusts that no new tenet or
By-Law shall be adopted nor any tenet or By-Law amended or annulled by
the grantees unless the written consent of Mary Baker G. Eddy, the
author of the textbook `Science and Health with Key to the
Scriptures' be given therefor." (Manual p137).
The third lock is provided by the last deed of March 3, 1904:
"Nothing in this deed . . . shall ever be construed as a waiver or
as permitting a modification in any degree of any of the trusts and
conditions . . . I do further declare that nothing herein contained
shall ever be construed as a waiver or as permitting a modification in

order that the Manual can be protected, not only by divine Law, but also
by human law. In this way, the divine Law can "be acknowledged as
[divine] Law by [human] law." (7th Day 176).
Maybe the Indenture of December 1906 is also another lock? I leave this
to David Robinson or someone else to answer.
The second conclusion is the symbols. We know that our leader's
teachings are imbued with symbols. The teaching is hidden in symbols, to
not throw the pearls to the swines. The more we rise in consciousness,
the more we learn to understand these symbols. But when the Church
organization took over, regardless her instructions starts tampering
with these holy symbols, the symbols of Truth become symbols of how
error negates. And so it becomes pretty interesting to observe what is
happening. Understanding this, helps me to not get upset about it all.
Her symbols are still around. And the 'attack' on Truth is also
symbolized.
A few examples:
As explained in an article by David Nolan (see Message #29396), the last
page 700 of the original 1910 edition is printed fully, representing the
completeness of the revelation. By deleting testimonies, page 700 is no
longer full, it is half full or half empty, not complete. And so this
symbolizes the half way church, not in full accordance with Mrs.
Eddy's work.
The transparency of the clear glass in shape of a circle is now darkened
by the corrupted Manual. This new symbol, shows us how the disobeyed and

preface ("turned my thought toward the light" S&H 700 - "the
first morning beams" S&H vii), and so, representing the "alpha and
omega," the first and the last, a COMPLETE CIRCLE. By placing this
testimony elsewhere, we have now a book in the RR that is named S&H, but
not so, because it symbolizes a LINE, with beginning and end.
"The real Life, or Mind, and its opposite, the so-called material
life and mind, are figured by two geometrical symbols, a circle or
sphere and a straight line. The circle represents the infinite without
beginning or end; the straight line represents the finite, which has
both beginning and end…." (S&H 282:3).
Another example:
In the North Gallery one of the windows was a circular shaped, clear
glass, not stained. In 1994, this circle was darkened with a picture of
the Church Manual. (I have not seen any image of this – see
Compendium part 8 p.3, from the CS Foundation).
Let us make the link of this original and later stained window with the
following quote: "The manifestation of God through mortals is as
light passing through the window-pane. The light and the glass never
mingle, but as matter, the glass is less opaque than the walls. The
mortal mind through which Truth appears most vividly is that one which
has lost much materiality – much error – in order to become a
better transparency for Truth. Then, like a cloud melting into thin
vapor, it no longer hides the sun." (S&H 295:16).

that is supposed to guarantee to let through Truth. The true Manual, if
obeyed, means the dissolving of the material and central organized
Mother Church, forcing us to move up spiritually, so that it no longer
can hide the sun.
"Despite the prosperity of my church, it was learned that material
organization has its value and peril, and that organization is requisite
only in the earliest periods in Christian history. After this material
form of cohesion and fellowship has accomplished its end, continued
organization retards spiritual growth, and should be laid off,- even as
the corporeal organization deemed requisite in the first stages of
mortal existence is finally laid off, in order to gain spiritual freedom
and supremacy." (Ret 45:5).
The original symbols are beautiful, and the confirmation of the original
symbols by negating it into symbols of error is also beautiful, IF (!)
translated rightly. And I must say, this way, I learn a lot despite the
mistakes. The negative can only show you what it negates, and therefore,
showing Truth.
There are many more landmarks and symbols of Mrs Eddy's negated that
therefore turn into symbols and marks for the negation. I would love to
hear more examples from others….
