The Vineyard Inspection

Isaiah 5:1- 7 1.Now will I sing to my well beloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My well beloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:

Vineyard-the church/God’s covenant people

2And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

Winepress- A vat in which the juice is pressed from grapes.

God had given the vineyard protection and had removed the debris. Only the best was given unto the vineyard. The Vineyard had experienced God’s divine favor. The winepress was put in the vineyard because good grapes were expected to come forth leading to good wine. But, He looked that it should bring forth good grapes, but wild grapes came forth.

Wild Grapes- good for nothing- does not bring glory to God
Good grapes-love, peace joy, all the things where as God can receive the glory.

Wild grapes- pride, discontent, malice, contempt of God(active disobedience). Wild grapes are the fruit of the corrupt nature.

So then they that are in the flesh can not please God.(Romans 8:8)

Judge Yourselves
3And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.

He makes them judges in their own cause, for as much as it was evident that they were the cause of their own ruin.
Who can we rightly blame for our disobedience toward God?
For if we judge ourselves we will not be judge. (1 Cor.11:31)

The Inspection
4What could have been done more to my vineyard that I have not done in it? Wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?

The vineyard did produce, however what was produce could not be used.

What are we truly producing? Is God pleased?

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary
God has done all that could be done for the salvation of sinners, consistently with His justice and goodness. The God of nature is, as it was, amazed at the unnatural fruit of so well-cared a vineyard.

When the inspection took place there was disappointment expressed. After all the grace that had been bestowed upon the vineyard, the statement was made, I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes? Everything possible had been done for the vineyard to bring forth good grapes.
However, when we choose to walk in disobedience we are bringing forth wild grapes- fruit that God can not use.

The Pending Judgment
5And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down.

Hedge-a wall of protection from outside destruction or wrong outside influences.

When the hedge is removed then you are open for destruction.
People of God we must repent! We do not want the hedge removed. God is calling for Repentance!!

6And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, or digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

The vineyard (church) will then be covered with briers and thorns. And there will be no rain. Rain signifies here the blessings of the Lord. The blessings will be aborted because of walking in disobedience- contrary to the word of God.

The Church Is The Vineyard
7For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

New American Standard Bible (©1995)
For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel And the men of Judah His delightful plant. Thus He looked for justice, but beholds bloodshed; for righteousness, but behold a cry of distress.

Lamentations 1:5 (KJV)
Her adversaries are the chief; her enemies prosper; for the LORD hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the
enemy.
..God's Word Translation..............................................................................
Its opponents are now in control. Its enemies have no worries. The LORD made Zion suffer for its many rebellious acts. Its children go ahead of their opponents into captivity.

Body of Christ, God is calling for Repentance.
Good grapes- Wild grapes. What have we produced?

The Inspection Is On………………..
