So today, 18 year old Holger Rune (whose name you might have seen a lot recently because he got like a half dozen wildcards into clay tournaments), was playing a Challenger and at one point yelled at his opponent, "ALLEZ, FAGGOT", with zero response from the chair umpire. People weren't real happy about this
Rune's "apology" on Instagram:
"I want to apologize for using some bad words to myself in the semifinal yesterday. I love diversity more than anyone I know and people that knows me, they no that! Sorry for not being as perfect as you all expect. Let's get wiser and better together"
His mom on Instagram:
"How many of you remember when you were 18 years old? I am sure many of you guys out there did a lot of bad stuff when you were 18 and you were far from perfect. No body is perfect at 18 years old. Nobody in general is perfect!! Everyone can make mistakes. If you are a man you can apologize as Holger did if anyone felt offended by his words to himself in a match. Do NOT harass Holger for a wrong comment and who else out there trying to make news and gossip from a hardworking young man who had no intention of hurting anyone. You talk about respect for other human beings but you feel entitled to harass whenever you feel like it hiding behind fake profiles? That's unfortunately the world today. Please have some respect for the few young determined people in this world working their ass off and are learning every day. Don't support shit storms. Try instead to create yourselves. Look at you. What did you succeed in this month?"
Patrick Mouratoglou commenting on his mom's post: "very well said, Haneke. Ignore them"
