Stuttgart begins tomorrow, and I will not be paying for streaming.  However Sabalenka has withdrawn from the tournament, citing an injury….non descript injury….😂.
Rybakina and Gauff are headliners.  The draw has a decent field.  Rybakina and Swiatek are both on the top half of the draw, and should meet each other in the quarters? Maybe.
Gauff and Svitolina are in the bottom half of the draw and should meet there also.

Leylah Fernandez beat Eala today in Stuttgart 6-1, 6-4.  She obviously didn’t want to be one of Eala’s scalps, and she played  terrific match.

Curious to see if Rafa will pay immediate dividends for Iga.

LOL sugar.  Ostapenko loves this tournament.  she demolished sabalenka last year here and now has taken the first set vs Andreeva today with 20 winners in the first set.  realized I put this in the atp thread.  anyway, Andreeva is running away with the 2nd though she's a choker too so who knows.

Swiatek dismissed Siegemund in a hurry.  I didn’t see the match,  but I'm sure she feels very confident after spending the week with Rafa at his academy.

Missvee, nothing to brag about beating an almost 40 year old woman.  I expected that. 😜

Rybakina really should be ashamed of not bageling Schnaider as the latter had 1 winner and 16 UFES in the first set.  Not a typo.

I find that Rybakina isn’t as vicious as she needs to be in these matches.  Be merciless in your pursuit of victory.  That’s my issue with Elena.  Anyway, she won today.

That girl has issues.
Anyway speaking of the WTA, recently someone on youtube has been posting colletions of Serena matches, it is rare to see someone from the past whose game would still win today.
Serena would totally dominate these peasants. When Serena was mad, those returns would come back faster than the serve.
I never appreciated how fast Serena got to dropshots, Serena's speed was insane. Some of these girls I swear are slower than me. 🤣

Sek I actually believe these girls were so bad and she didn't value them and that's why she lost those finals in addition to nerves.  Put any of the golden era girls there and Serena wins those finals.  If she was motivated and really wanted it, she could easily win RG without dropping a set.

Fernandez came all the way back from being down 1-4? Or 1-5 to win the match in a third set tie break.

Coco will win this now in 3.  Muchova actively finds ways to lose against her lol.   muchova has been the better player this match but then stops going to coco's fh and had some comical misses at the end.  Coco and this head-to-head are in her head.

Can't believe Muchova pulled that off.  I never understood her struggles with Coco to this extent.  Like if Emma Navarro can beat her in back-to-back majors, no excuses for Muchova to never have won a match before today vs Coco.  When Muchova actually plays well, it's so fun to watch.

Where is Sugar? Iga is out. How Iga can no longer win these matches even on clay is a mystery to me.

Iga is cooked.  too many believe against her and want her scalp.  It's not easy being hunted.  Serena dealt with this for decades.  If they faced big-dicking tennis like she did, they would cry in a corner.  Now Leylah, I don't trust her.  If she wins this, she will lose either the next round or even worse potentially against Svitolina unless Muchova saves us from that horror.  Leylah is someone who can pull this off and then lose to Elsie Jacquemot round 1 somewhere.  She got bageled by Shnaider in Charleston who got dismissed easily by Rybakina and now Leylah is doing this.  WTA make it make sense.

Starting back from around this time last year, the only players who were ranked in the top (at the time of their match) that Iga has beaten were Keys and Polini (and Polini even avenged one of her losses).

I'm not surprised by this loss.   Seems as if more time than not Iga would give out some early round carbs and she did not do so in her previous match.

Yup star she got lucky at Wimbledon with that draw and Amanda not being able to tie her own shoes even in that final.

Leylah and Elena was surprisingly high-quality.  51 winners and 40 UFEs for Elena and 24 winners and 18 UFEs for Leylah.  Elena dictated but good match from both.

Fedex if Elena had lost this match, I would have stopped supporting her.  Love Leylah, but no way should she beat Rybakina.  I understand that the way she plays is a problem for Rybakina, and with the clay surface at night being so slow, Elena’s game is not as potent.  Still she should not be having such a tough time with Leylah.

Lol Miss Vee stop Leylah actually played well and knows how to play on clay.  But yeah all things being equal, Elena should almost always win this matchup.

Rybakina who had lost to Muchova in Brisbane earlier this year, played a beautiful match today, to win the final.  She was playing from everywhere on court.  Serve plus one worked like a dream, forward movement to net to finish “ pick off her ankles” volleys….was superb…chef’s kiss 😘.  When Rybakina’s serve is clicking, it’s very difficult to stop her!

On to Madrid.
