I didn’t watch even the video clips. In Naomi’s earlier years, she never uttered a word. Then she started yelling c’mon to pump herself up, when she was behind or had taken a lead in the 3rd set. It was always during her serve…..not on her opponents serve. I can see that Naomi can still play very good tennis, but I don’t see her reaching a GS final any longer.
She is bothered by an ab issue as we speak, and is trying to manage it, to see how far she can reach in this tournament. If she was pumping herself up on her opponents service games, from what ex players are saying, it’s not cool. However she has been doing so now for awhile, but she was more quiet about it. I think she was only thinking about what she wanted to accomplish, and because nobody had ever complained about it, IMO she may have thought there was no issue. Not making excuses for Naomi, because I can see why she may have been surprised about Cirstea’s response. I had thought Naomi was yelling out on her own service games.
The umpire said that it isn’t a hindrance. I think yelling out between your opponents first and second serve could be construed as hindrance, but the umpire said it was fine.
