First thread is becoming too lengthy.  Had to start a new one.
Fils is so subdued, and one can see that he lost belief already.  Sinner up 5-1 first set.

Miss_Vee, Fils knows he has a long way to go before he can compete with those guys.
Give him a year, if he continues with the progress he is making, he will have a chance.
Goran was a smart addition to his team, I know they are doing a trial period but I hope he keeps him.

I think Goran is a fine addition to Fils’ team.  Hopefully he can help him get to the highest level where he can compete with Alcaraz and Sinner.
Btw, I’m hearing impressive comments about Carlos’ younger brother Jaime who is only 15 years old, and making noise on the Junior Circuit.  He may be joining the ATP tour soon.

This will be an interesting match.  Zverev vs Blockx….the latter has been identified by Jannik as a potential great player in the same vein as Jodar.

Alexander Zverev has come to the party ready to play Alexander Blockx!!  The young Alexander is being schooled so far in this first set.  Older Alexander leading 5-1 with a break point to take the first set.

The kid Blockx is fighting back in the second set.  He just fought off 2 break points in the first game of the second set.

Blockx gave it his best shot, but his inexperience showed in the latter stages of the second set.  Sasha broke him at 5 all, and served out the match.
Sinner vs Zverev on Sunday.

Sinner vs Zverev is the current most boring match up.

Totally agreed!  It’s quite remarkable to watch Sinner take other players apart with his game.  I can see as Jodar develops his game, that he would chances of beating Sinner, who will also continue to become even better…lol. Mensik is another under 21 ATP player who, if he continues improving, is highly competitive with Sinner.  He already has one win over Sinner, back in February in Doha.

Miss_Vee, I do not think Mensik is hungry enough. He has the game and the tools, but I just don't see him becoming consistent.
One of those guys that will show up for an event and then chill for a few months.

Sek, do you think that Kostyuk has the mental fortitude to beat Andreeva?

Having said that, we know that Andreeva is not the strongest mentally either.  Marta has started this match as though she means business.  She wants to beat the sh*t out of the young Russian.

Kostyuk means business.   She has Mirra on the back foot in this match, by being ultra aggressive.

I’m not as invested in this final, as much as I thought I would be…lol.  I’m outta here!

Miss_Vee, I did not watch the final, but like I have said in the past, Mirra depends so much on the other players making errors.
And the crying and temper tantrums have to stop, she has been on the tour long enough. Every time things don't go her way she starts crying and pretty much gives up.

Sek, apparently we all missed a wonderful back hand spring from Kostyuk…lol.  I saw the pics on social media…lol.

Just when Zverev thought he had drawn closer to Sinner’s game in substance,  Jannik turns up the dial even more.  The first set is all but over, because Sinner is leading 5-0 in 17 mins.
It’s now up to the next generation like Fonseca, Mensik, Jódar to try and stop Sinner from completely dominating the ATP tour.

This finale was indeed a practice session for Jannik, who said in his post match interview on court, that Sasha didn’t play his best. I guess this title didn’t take too much out of him.
On to Roma.

It did occur to me after the match, that even though Zverev was always going to come up short in the final, maybe he could have made it more competitive, if he didn’t arrive at the final less than his best.  In fact, we were reminded during this match, that the last time Zverev played the Madrid final, it was against Alcaraz.  Zverev came into that final, also having played all night matches.
For some reason Sasha is usually scheduled at night.

Zverev is just bad, I didn't watch the match but I can imagine what kind of game he was playing.
Every time Zverev plays Carlos, he is up at midnight running up and down the hotel hallway, yet he can't even move against Sinner.
