I think Musetti will bite the dust this evening.
Anisimova isn’t playing. I think she intends to make this final in Australia. She has mire belief now, and it’s obvious to us, who have been watching her for a while now.

It seems to be a case of Jannik not ever having played this guy before, plus Jannik seems out of sync for some reason. Hopefully he gets it together soon. These situations happen, especially with players who qualified for the main draw.

I can see that. Could not playing a lead up tournament before AO make the difference here? Jannik seems to be definitely out of sync.

His first round match was over maybe after an hour. In his second round match, he wasn’t pushed. At least Carlos has been pushed somewhat. Carlos game should be ok by the time the 2nd seek begins on the weekend.
Hopefully Jannik will find his game soon. He needs this match, and hopefully he will escape this opponent…lol

Omg! I think Jannik is cramping due to the heat today. He has never done well in the heat. Jesus! He is shaking his legs. He is done.

Jannik could not be competitive in Shanghai a few months ago. Today is brutally hot in Australia. I see his team looking on helplessly. There is nothing anyone can do right now. He should have been in Australia at the start of January to become acclimated to the temperature. He needed to be there more than a week ahead of this tournament. I’m gutted for him.

If he is able to hold on, he should invoke the “heat rule” that’s available to be used after this set.

It’s so obvious that Jannik should have been in Australia on January 2nd or 3rd. At least 14 days before the start of AO. Roger used to head there at least 2 weeks prior, if I remember correctly. He would play Hopman Cup to get used to the heat.
Carlos at least had moderate temperatures I think in Spain, and Carlos is also more hardy than Jannik, who was crazy to stay in the cold weather longer than he needed to do so. This will teach him a lesson.

The past several years, the temperatures at AO were manageable for the most part. One never knows what will happen during summer in Australia. I can remember many players struggling very badly in the Australian heat. I can still recall Sharapova and her opponent having to be given a long break after the second set, to stabilize their bodies. They had to cool their bodies to prevent heat stroke.

My goodness! Sinner has escaped. The heat rule under which they closed the roof saved him, for sure. I think Sinner has a disadvantage in the heat. I think I read somewhere that redheads with the extreme pale white skin have very little melanin in their bodies. Seems Jannik will always struggle in the heat.
Fedex, can you confirm or deny…😂?

Actually I’m right in my assertion that Jannik will always be susceptible to heat stroke, because redheads possess a rare skin pigment that means they have no protection to UV rays, causing their skin to burn rapidly, rather than tan. I remember Nicole Kidman statement that she takes care to cover up if she goes out in the sun, and she makes sure that Sher skin never exposed to the sun.
So maybe he will always have this problem. However, maybe he can lessen it by heading to Australia earlier.

Osaka has left the building. Just as I had said earlier, I think Osaka has to remain healthy in order to win another GS title. Naomi has withdrawn from the tournament m because of her ab injury. She did not say that in her message, but the issue had been identified after her first round win. Anyway, Inglis (Aussie)is through to her first 4th round in her home Slam.

This is Stan’s last appearance at the AO, but he will continue playing the rest of the season. He will retire at the end of the season.
